I managed to pick up a near mint copy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side for $40 and have to say it was worth every penny.

Truly amazing.

I have like 5 copies of this, including the original pressing. There is no better album ever made!:D

Yeah, I think the industry has gotten my money at least a half dozen times on various formats. And its not even my favorite Floyd album. :)

I don't have a TT worthy of the vinyl, and so far I'm undecided whether I want the 35th anniversary edition SACD or the regular CD (more player options with the regular for me).

Don't I know you? ;)

DSOTM huh? Let's see, I bought that on:
8-track
Casset
LP record (several copies worn down to the scratches
More cassets that I recorded off the records
CD
SACD

How many times can I buy the same music? Is there a DVD? Wait! Make that Blu-Ray please.

If you hit it at the right time - you can get the MFSL LP on vinyl for $30 - $40.

DSOTM is really a treat on SACD. If you can swing it, I would suggest it.

The Guthrie-mixed sacd 5.1 version of DSOTM is quite good, certainly quieter. But Parsons' original quad mix from the '70s, (4.1 on dvd-a), is a much more exciting recording than Guthrie's "safer" mix, IMO. DSOTM is the one album that screams for the envelope to be pushed, not throttled back. As far as I'm concerned Parsons had it right.

Not meaning to highjack this thread, but if anybody is interrested in the "Pink Floyd" Pulse Box Set-4 Records. It is open but never played. They sell for around $300.00, I have one for sale. Make offer. I have no use for it, it's just in my way.

That's the one! I read a comparision of the SACD version and the DVD-A version by someone on Amazon.com I think it was, and he was pretty convincing. if there was one. :)

I think there are pluses and minuses to the 2 channel, 4 channel and 5 channel mixes. I typically pick the 2 channel when listening currently, but if I ever get a proper surround set up for music 4 channel would likely be my go to in this case.

The SACD that I have is a hybrid version that has a CD layer.

It will play anywhere.

Sorry for the confusion. I have a PS3 that will play SACD's, but according to the Amazon.com reviewer, on his equipment the DVD-A had better SQ.

Problem I'm running into right now is I can't find the original recording Hawkeye pointed out. :(

Agreed I enjoy both the 5.1 and stereo mixes on the hybrid disc.

I have got MFSL gold discs of Meddle and Atom Heart Mother and they both sound outstanding too.

I just found a site with the DVD-A quad mix for download, I will definitely give it a listen and compare with the SACD. I have certainly never found the SACD mix to be "tame" so I look forward to the quad.

I have a mint copy of DSOTM on vinyl, and it IS incredible sounding. Fortunately, I invested in a turn table that is quite capable. It places you into a virtual world of sound on my main system - and so many parts of the album sound frighteningly real. The track with the clocks.... it sounds as if (not sort of as if) you are in a huge room full of clocks all around you. That track has yet to fail to get ANYONE's mouth to drop. :)

This rock album recording gets 9/10 from me! Truly one of the best rock recordings ever made.

There's also a live version of DSOTM on a DVD ("Pulse") if you want to watch Gilmour, Mason, & Wright on stage, along with cute women in see-through dresses.;)

That is an incredible DVD with a great rendition of DSoTM. Fantastic mix - Gilmour did it right in waiting to release it until he had it just like he wanted it. Saw that tour at Texas Stadium and it is my favorite concert of allllll tyume.
