I doubt anyone of taste and judgment would suppose that you, or, for that matter, any other living person, were as accomplished as Beethoven as far as composing music is concerned. However, the idea that hearing is not necessary for the written word or any advice here is an interesting analogy to Beethoven. It is knowledge and good sense that matter for accuracy in what one says, not one's hearing or what equipment one can afford. That, I expect, is what you intended in your reference to Beethoven; whether you or anyone else here is deaf or not is entirely irrelevant to whether they give good advice for audio equipment. One can be very knowledgeable about something without being able to experience it, as, for example, a male doctor, or a female doctor who is sterile, may be an expert in childbirth. Giving birth does not make one understand all of the processes involved. Any mentally retarded woman who is not sterile can give birth, but giving birth will not make her no longer retarded. Too many people imagine that an ill-informed experience is more valuable than true knowledge.
Precisely the right ideas and choice of explanation. Priceless :)

.....now that really brought things into perspective, didn't it?....Pyrro, you come across as trying to sound like a calm and reserved college professor who's feeling sorry for the ignorant masses, and then grabs at straws for making up weak analogies....why can't you understand if all you have for an opinion is what someone else wrote, you don't have an opinion....any topic that warrants reports and articles, is usually controversial to start with, and I'll take personal experience, every time......

You mean that you cannot have the same opinion as another and express that??? You have to have a different opinion??? Interesting

Why? One is not allowed to support with articles? Why is that?

and I'll take personal experience, every time......

Who is forcing you to do differently? Hey, water can bend steel pipes. I saw it myself. Water not under pressure, nothing, just in a 5 gal bucket. And, what is even more amazing, air will return it to its original shape. I saw it, that is my personal experience, trust me on this.

If you are serious about what you say, if you mean personal experience, then you must believe that sites like this one are completely worthless, as they do not deliver personal experience with audio equipment; only statements. And if you mean that you prefer the statements of those with personal experience over those with knowledge, then that would mean that you would take medical advice from a mentally retarded person over a doctor, if the mentally retarded person had the condition and the doctor did not.

Indeed, accepting people's statements about their experiences at face value is an interesting concept. I suppose you believe people if they say that they can hear the wing beat of a gnat at 100 yards away, or that they can leap over tall buildings in a single bound? When someone claims that they can do something that no one has ever been able to demonstrate doing, don't you think it is healthy and wise to be skeptical of what they say, and ask them for proof, rather than accepting their claim?

When doubting someone, it does not necessarily mean that one regards the person as dishonest; the person may simply be mistaken. Do you want to believe every mistaken opinion you are told?

I am reminded of a rather vulgar expression about opinions, but it is rather apt: Opinions are like a**holes: everyone has one. An opinion may be rather worthless, as, indeed, uninformed opinions often are. Experiencing something is far different from understanding the experience. Yet you put a premium upon raw experience. Don't you see the problem with doing that?

BMXTRIX,

I've just picked up on this thread. I have a Meridian G68, with Meridan DSP5200 L, R & C, DSP3100 surrounds and the Meridian SW5500 sub. I have never had any issues with them. I have had occasion to contact Meridian in Australia and HQs in the UK, and I have nothing but praise for the guys in support. Always speedy with replies to emails and always willing to help with questions. A shame to hear you have had issues, but I might have missed something... did you say you had actually owned any Meridian?

Yes the Meridian equipment is pricey and no, I don't have money to throw out the window. I have a wife, two young girls and a mortgage. But life is short and you need to embrace your passions and live it along the way.

Is the difference in audio quality night and day? Purely subjective, but to me, I can clearly hear the difference. For both movies and music alike, the sound is embracing and full. Is it worth 'x' times the $$$ of a Yamaha, Denon or McIntosh system? Again, purely subjective and in this case, all relative to what YOU value quality at.

For me, they are perfect, for you, I am glad you are happy with your Yamaha (or whatever system you may own).
