Media streaming vs HDD playback

I have purchased at 2TB HDD and I run it through my PS3 to play movies, but it seems that it is more of a hassle when I try to play newer ones with encryption. I have tried using VUZE as a media streaming server and the video keeps stuttering. Is there a better service to use? Is my HDD a waste of money?

Are you stripping the encryption or are you just copying to the hard drive? I don't know what formats the PS3 reads but you need to pick ripper that decrypts as well as rips to a format that the PS3 likes.

I am just downloading and dumping file to HDD. I am not too tech savy when figuring out what kind of format it is. Usually they are MP4 or Avi files. Any idea on how to strip the encryption?

I'm assuming you're talking about cinavia or whatever it's called. If you use a WDTV live (or whatever it's called) instead of your ps3 you won't have that issue.

That's probably the best solution. A WDTV Live will play darn near anything and it accepts up to 2 external drives. You can see one at Best Buy or watch this youtube video, it's a bit dated but you'll get an idea of how it works. The only thing I know of that it will not play is 24bit flacs (16bit only) and DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD.

From the WD website:
