I would love to build my own. But for one thing, that is like buying speakers sound unheard, with no chance of returning, and for another, I am not sure I am upto building an enclosure. If I make a little mistake, speaker might be rattling inside the sub instead of sub rattling the windows :D

If you have a link I would be curious to see the procedure. Thanks.

It really isn't very hard if you take your time, here is a basic sealed enclosure. http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/subwoofers/box_building.html This is just a how to. When you decide on which sub you will buy the manufacturer will recomend a size for the box. The one they show is for a car so your box would be bigger but it is the same process. I just did it myself for the first time and I love the way it came out and it sounds as good if not better than any sub I have owned in the 5 to 7 hundred dollar range.

Yes, it does seem simple to make. But what about the quality of parts I pick? If I could listen to it before I order the parts, I would feel so much better knowing what I was getting.

Maybe you can share the parts you chose for yours since you are happy with the performance of the one you made.

Thanks.

Well you use 3/4'' Mdf which you can get at any Lowes or Home depot for the build. If you want to use a plate amp to power your sub O audio has some good options here.........http://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=C1frnfVJSSeeTIpGKtgf7jqHyBK7poAiO_NGGA77uivgDCAAQAygDUO3cjZEHYMmWhImEpOwPyAEBqgQWT9DCXwdTlxzAELjBI1D71osGevNQmA&sig=AGiWqtyh5qgEM0xJvHdoiGPdlawITxtF9w&q=http://www.oaudio.com Or at parts express here....http://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=Co6q9fVJSSeeTIpGKtgf7jqHyBOPl_3zDwNTyCqGUuNYCCAAQASgDULecpoYGYMmWhImEpOwPoAG9y8L_A8gBAaoEE0_Qsn0UU5UcwBC4wSNQ-9aLBno&sig=AGiWqtwLWL1ellIlLn3-0HhzT4vxVjrOUg&q=http://www.parts-express.com/webpage.cfm%3Fwebpage_id%3D3%26CAT_ID%3D48%26ObjectGroup_ID%3D505%26raid%3D1%26rak%3Dplate_amplifiers

I use a pro audio amp which is more expensive but a fantastic sub amp here....http://new-vista-sales.amazonwebstore.com/Behringer-EuroPower-EP2500-Power-Amp/M/B0002KZQ9I.htm?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle

The driver or sub is the heart of the system so you want to do some research and do some reading on them but I chose the Shiva x which is a well reviewed driver and does a fantastic job in sealed or ported enclosures.......http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?products_id=653

Here is the link to my build.......http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/exodus-audio/14208-shiva-x-sub-build.html

Thanks

Thanks for the links. Your sub looks very good. But it seems like a lot of work. I am not sure I am ready to undertake a project like that at this time.

I have been considering the Dayton 12" from part express. I will probably pull the trigger on it in a few days.
