On the information from the build project, they had measured nearfield response with -3db point of 25hz with a notch filter engaged on the amplifier. SeeHere

Measurements at the listening location should yield usable lower frequency response. Each room will be different. Using a pair or more of them to balance frequency response in the room should yield very low frequency usable response. The smaller the room the larger the gain would be.

New choice here: a local person has a Martin Logan Descent (not i) for sale for $1700, coincidentally the very same price as a shipped PB13-ultra in oak. Take off a few dollars for selling my Velodyne, maybe a few more if he's generous...

It's supposed to be a great sub, although slightly ahead of my budget schedule. I'm going to hear it tomorrow - anyone who has heard both with an opinion? Probably too late to be asking, since I still might come home with it. Or I might wait and think for a couple days. Slightly less extension, but I've found no substantive negative comments or comparisons not to its advantage.

The Ultra is a better option for real deep response in my opinion. It will be at a higher output level as well. Honestly like stated above, multiple subs will yield better response through out the room overall. It may even be perceived to play deeper as room modes and node will be equalized some.

I do totally believe you about the multiple subs issue - I have it set so it sounds good at the listening position, and in that neighboring front room there's one spot with crazy response, but there are some big gaps in the sound at other places. The only problem is that until I move, there's absolutely no way to have them. I can't even consider one of the SVS cylinders, since the only place I have is a subwoofer-shaped hole right under the screen. The rest of the front is taken up by mains and center and the equipment rack. A second sub would have to be in the next room, and even then I'd have to seriously rearrange things.

Time to move?
