I want to upgrade from my Marantz SR 8400 so I can get HDMI switching. I can get either the Marantz SR 7002 or the Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH for $850. Which seem like great prices for great receivers. The specs on the two seem very similar. I've been pleased with Marantz in the past and I have no experience with Pioneer Elite. Any thoughts on how to choose between the two?

I had been looking at the PE and the Marantz (8002 in my case) for quite a while now and just recently ordered the PE 92TXH for about the same price you quoted. I dont think you can go wrong in either case given what i have read about both models. It's difficult to find anyone that purchased the Marantz or the PE that was not satisfied with their purchase. For me it came down to the fact that i felt like i was going to get a little more from my purchase with the 92. Whichever one you choose i would advise to only purchase from authorized dealers. Good luck with your decision!

I would personally take the Marantz in a heartbeat. I know there's a thread about how you can't perceive a difference in sound between similarly powered amps, but to me Marantz has always sounded better than its equivalent in price.

I'm a recent owner of the PE 94. It's one tick up from the 92, but essentially the same. I can tell you without hesitation that I would recommend these Elite receivers to anyone. I'm not saying the Marantz isn't better or worse, but the you won't make a mistake if you decide to get the PE.
