when emotiva decides to build one an emo.
If they every made one it would definitely be made in China. I don't see how they could design and execute a model that would be cost effective for their target market anyway. It's just not their element.

I believe Panasonic and Yamaha have a dvd/blu-ray player relationship. I have nothing to back this up though.

Best-buy used to sell Yamaha dvd players manufactured by some generic company. At least they had the decency to list the manufacturer on the back panel.

Toshiba's LCD televisions have never appealed to me.
At the time, a 42" 1080p for $999 shipped was appealing. Seeing as how we use it every day, and the picture is very good, I am satisfied with what I got for my money. However, I wouldn't buy another one.;)

Have you seen their new line yet? That gear is not cheap it also doesn't target someone who just "got in" to audio gear. I have good experience with them and their customer service, they make one, it has problems, I call them and we go from there. Emotiva is smaller company, they have more to lose. On the other hand hand Yamaha, Pioneer, Denon, Marantz, and all these other companies are large and really don't care. As long as they sell it people will buy.

That was some what off topic and I can thats where this thread is drifting :D It sucks that a Blu-Ray player that cost as much as new TV goes down the customer service sucks.

Allow me to re-direct you.

Panasonic, Oppo, Pioneer, LG are your best bets for stand alone Blu-ray players.

Sony and Samsung are alright, and some are very good.

Denon & Marantz, well we all know the skinny on that.

Toshiba Blu-ray players are behind the curve, and probably Funai.

I can't comment on Yamaha or Onkyo for that matter. I believe Yamaha's Blu-ray players are in house designs. I was never very inspired by their efforts on DVD players though. Onkyo used to make their own DVD players and some were excellent designs, I can't speculate as to whether their Blu-ray players are designed in house.

All others including Magnavox, Philips, Vizio, or any generic players should be avoided.

Lexicon, CON, duh.

If I missed anything let me know.
My low end Sony DVD Blu Ray and my Samsung upconverting DVD player has played everything I've thrown at it. They have been rock solid in performance. I'm not too thrilled with LG from the reports I've been reading and a complaint have been rasied about their Panny.

Out of your top gear group, the Oppo stands alone. Everything else gets moved into the the alright group.

Toshiba has some really good CRTs with accurate color. Unfortuntaley, they lost it once they moved to HD LCD displays.
