Marantz BD8200 took a crap!

My BD8200 locked-up. That's just the beginning.

My new Porcupine Tree blu-ray came with a dvd copy as well. I sent my POS Marantz off to be repaired under warranty. I was forced to employ my old Yamaha DVD S-840. The sound quality trumps my Marantz in every way. And that's with the dvd copy.

Marantz "Made in China" is garbage. I have always stuck with Yamaha, and wish I had saved my $1600 now. This forum will push, and can push whatever they want. You FLAT-OUT can't beat Yamaha for the money.

Jack-@$$ today, but not again. BTW, Marantz customer service $uck$.

Porcupine Tree is the best current rock band. Learn it. Know it.

Yamaha electronics have the best SQ, and bang for the buck. Know it. Trust it.

Sorry to hear about your woes...but I have to disagree with you on a few items.

I will not touch any of the RX-V series that were built in the last year and a half. Particularily, the 1065 and the 2065..over priced limp wristed POS. Now, the new 67 series holds way more promise, espically the 667. Its moving back to what Yamaha used to be.

Porcupine Tree is good but its far from the best. I rather listen to MOJO by TP & the Heartbreakers or the Von Bondies. ;)

Got it back!

Had to send my player off to another state to be repaired. Shocked to get it back so soon. Looks like a simple solder repair. Sweet.

Anybody want a good deal on this over-rated player?

PT blu-ray not for sale at any price!

Last time I checked, Philips made or manufactured Marantz's players. Thank them.

This is outside the topic so I'll be brief. The 667 weighs 9 lbs less than the 2065. Weight is not the only factor but the 667 is a little too light for comfort. That said, if the prepro section is good then it can still be a good buy.

Back to Zumbo's player, I think for 1600 I would have opted for something like an Oppo 83SE.:D

Update:(

When I got the blu-ray player back from repair, I didn't put it back in my system. No rush. Well, I just purchased a new blu-ray concert. I put the unit back into service. Awesome. Killer blu-ray(Jane's Addiction '09). Watched the concert. Checked-out the extras. Then the mutha bleepin POS locks-up again. Now my brand new blu-ray is stuck in this POS.

DO NOT BUY FROM MARANTZ! They are of no help on the phone, and could care less that some jerk was willing to pay 2k for their pi$$-poor product. And yes, I truly feel like a jerk.

The last time I felt like this was when I was a kid. I got ready to ride my dirt-bike, went outside, and it was gone. Same feeling.

That sucks 1000%.

I think my Denon DVD-3800BDCI is pretty much the same unit; it was also $2,000 and also made in China.

I hope it doesn't suck like that.

It's a good thing I'm using my HTPC about 99% of the time for movies and music. If HTPC can do SACD DSD-direct and DVD-A MLP, I would be using my HTPC 100% of the time.

The feeling that you paid $2K for something that ends up breaking and the customer service sucks is a horrible & frustrating feeling.

The first Marantz CD player I bought died within a few months also. I took it back and the dealer gave me a Sony player that still works fine today almost 8 yrs later.

Funai....

I have nothing else to say.
Interesting. Let me just slap my name on something a charge a fortune for it.

And these creeps have a $2300 player, as well as a $6000 unit.

I hope the Government will not be bailing-out this mismanaged company when this comes back to bite them. On the other hand, charging this much money may keep them alive.

I wonder if the Gov't would bail me out, they seem to bail out everyone else. Anyways scratch that brand off my list of brands to buy. I have been weighing heavily on what blu ray player brands to buy, That means its up to Denon and Yamaha.

Allow me to re-direct you.

Panasonic, Oppo, Pioneer, LG are your best bets for stand alone Blu-ray players.

Sony and Samsung are alright, and some are very good.

Denon & Marantz, well we all know the skinny on that.

Toshiba Blu-ray players are behind the curve, and probably Funai.

I can't comment on Yamaha or Onkyo for that matter. I believe Yamaha's Blu-ray players are in house designs. I was never very inspired by their efforts on DVD players though. Onkyo used to make their own DVD players and some were excellent designs, I can't speculate as to whether their Blu-ray players are designed in house.

All others including Magnavox, Philips, Vizio, or any generic players should be avoided.

Lexicon, CON, duh.

If I missed anything let me know.
