Please comment on this pre pro+amp combination for my KEF R11s and R2C 3 channel setup I use for both music and movies.

Found a good deal on local craigslist $750 for
Marantz AV8801 + 3 Outlaw Monoblocks 2200

It will work just fine for music and movies. Most likely it'll sound just like what you have now, which I'm assuming also sounds great.

Are you saying $750 for the 8801 AND 3 2200s? That's a smoking deal.

I can't speak towards the condition of the 8801 or how long it may last... but my 2200s are 2.5yrs old and going strong. No complaints about sound quality or anything. Solid product.

How old ar the ones you can buy?

I suspect the deal is just for the monoblocks.
OP said the whole thing.
That processor is 8yr old tech, though. May be in great condition... hard to say. A lot has changed even since I shopped in 2018, not even taking HDMI 2.1 into account.

might be a little pricey for the Amps alone, but as a package? Not too shabby, even if OP ends up junking the processor in a year.

I was taking it as $750 for the group of pre/pro and amps....

This is same tech basically as all my systems :) I could lose the non-hdmi setup with the basic old avr...and have amps to spare....

I'm not sure, but if that $750 does include the 8801 then hell yes. I'd get it, but understand it's not likely to be an audible upgrade from what op has now.

It is 8 years old, something that slipped my attention until I reread your post so there's that. It's not going to have the latest features and HDMI. I personally would look at it mostly for the monoblocks, which drops the value for me.

I didn't realize he already had stuff since he just mentioned speakers....but that's never really stopped anyone before, either :)

If for the latest/greatest video stuff, I would get something more modern but I'd pay that much just to play with the prepro and then I could use some amps where they're actually useful....you know, they're SEPARATES! :)

@red_kk what are you hoping to get out of this deal? The amps are nice and so is the 8801, but it's going to be limited if you want to incorporate it into a modern system. In your other thread you said you were thinking about getting a SR5014 I believe? Would you be getting this deal instead of the 5014? What do you have for a receiver right now? I don't remember if you mentioned it before.

Yeah I agree. If a guy has a use (or makes one!) for it, it's a pretty damned good deal, but not much use in a modern setup aside from the amps.

Yeah fits my tech needs....for several current systems but not everyone would be happy to stay that way for a while like me either.

My current receiver is a 10yr old Pioneer VSX 1021-k with 90W per channel in stereo mode. Doesn't sound bad at all.

I have several options at this point, SR5014, SR6011(for $700), Aventage RX-A2080 (for $1k). Basically i'm looking to get sound that fills the room without compromising on clarity which I see a bit lacking now with my current Pioneer)

As for the HDMI 2.1 features, i'm never going to use them. If it supports basic 4k switching i'm good and I can always buy latest and greatest in future once I know what exactly I want. This is mostly to explore different combinations hence i'm looking for used ones so I don't take a big loss when I sell.

Yes for all the 3 2200s and 8801
Thank you for clarifying.

So... you caught up with the rest of the posts now? Are you hoping to make the 8801 your main hubhub in a modern setup? That's gonna have limitations. Thoughts?

Mainly want to explore 8801 for the sound signature. Once I'm satisfied with Marantz i can upgrade in future. May be even sell the whole thing for $500 and upgrade when I know better and develop some taste and gain knowledge.

Considering the 8801 was their flagship back then, it will sound great, and will continue to do so for a while to come assuming it is in good condition. Same with those Amps.
I think its a great deal.
I do not believe that you are going to experience vastly differnt SQ in changing gear, ever. The only caveat is whether it is used within its spec or not. If you are pushing thing hard and long, you will quickly blow them, too.
But within their range of tolerance? This is a really solid score.
