These aren't the Walmart specials. These are the rp line. I have two friends with kef mid level speakers and I do not like the sound. I also have a living room setup with def tech speakers. I think Def tech sounds better. The brands I like the sound is paradigm founder / premier , def tech, upper level klipsch, elec mid level i have heard. Focal can be ok with alot of eq. I hated svs and emotiva speakers. Heard svs high end and mid level towers from emotiva.
Def Tech really are the bottom of the barrel. If you like those you need an ear transplant!

I have a friend who is local with KEF speakers and they are excellent, and measure well.

Thats one thing about this hobby not everyone hears the same. If we did their would be one brand and thats it. I said I like def tech I didnt say it was the best stuff on earth. To me morel and stereo integrity is end game. But morel home tower cost $60k. Not something I would spend my money on.

I can't find a Morel Speaker that costs 60K, but may be you can.

I will say that Morel make excellent drivers, and I used them in our Greatroom system my wife demanded.

Bass mids are Morel, tweeters in L + R speakers are Scanspeak, and in the mid Eaton. The sub driver is Dayton Audio.

Good speakers have to be a very good total concept though.

I can't find them now. Looks like they dont make them anymore. It was 7 years ago I seen them. I have had 3 cars done full morel love them. Why didnt u use the morel tweeter in the setup?

Because they were not optimal for the application and this particular design.

Trying to think how i could build something and move the Marantz Blu-ray the rest I could put next to the zidoo. If i moved those parts i could fit one more sub upfront.

I have done the math. I can fit 2 10's behind the front row 4 cubic ft box before port. Tuned to 26hz using dayton ultimax v2 subs. Using a speaker power 1200 rms amp. Would this help the room at all? Working on an idea of how to get subs closer. If i moved the couch forward i could probably fit 12's but than i would be under 5feet from the screen .

How about pulling your L/R speakers further from the wall and placing subs behind them?

Than they would be 12 inches from where I sit. Right in the walk way.

Maybe its time to let the towers go and get bookshelf style

Yes I do. I have 2 kids. And I built a riser platform into the room that acts has a hush box built with traps for exit air venting. The room is sealed when the double door closes. Were talking 7 layers of 5/8 heavy sheet rocknwith green glue and floating channels. I lost alot of room space building it to keep the sound in.

With subs in a smallish room that is a good way to go IME.
I have always been a tower guy. Started with jbl , sony, polk, klipsch, Martin logen over the last 20 years. I was always thinking u can't get that kinda sound out of a bookshelf. So im looking for a good pair. I would build a custom set but right now is a busy time for my business and I need to spend that time working on projects for others not my self.

The only way i could put subs next to the towers would require me putting the towers on top of the sub cabinets.
Yeah, we constantly hear people talking about "optimal subwoofer placements", but most houses cannot accommodate that. :D

With most houses, most people could only put subs next to their front speakers or UNDER their front speakers. :D

I guess that's why they make modular towers where the subwoofer is literally under the speaker or large towers where the "sub" is built into the bottom of the speaker.

In my big room I prefer the towers, too. I had the smaller speakers on stands in that big room but moved them to my bedroom that's more on the size of yours (just 5.2, tho) and they work very well for me. What kind of spl levels are you seeking?

Lol 140db sub. Over 100db sub 20hz. At the end game. I have had it on rew with 4 subs in the room hitting 132.4 dB im sure that would be enough for me if I didnt have this null in my seat. . Some updates. I have been doing alot of thinking and looking. Im changing my front three speakers. This will take like 6 months to finish no rush I have work to do before this. Plus im building a alpine type x system for a sq comp coming up in 4 months. Kinda a retro thing now since alpine no longer sells type x. Back to my new idea. I need subs up front by the corners so I can't do that with these towers. OK I get it new idea order another si sql 15 driver. Move my double 15 box from the front to the back right. Take the back right driver and install that in a new box in the front right . Im going to take a Steve meade idea and use it in my room. Build a custom cabinet. Base will hold the 15 probably 3.5 cubic need to do some winisd tests first. Than have a custom tower come out of the top. But not wasting my time with looking for drivers I have ordered towers I will take the parts from. I like definitive technology so I found demand d17 towers refurbished from def tech. I also ordered the new dm30 center. The front 3 matches for now and later I will change out the surrounds. D17 can handle 300 rms so thay works with my anthem amp. Its a true 3 way setup so its still an upgrade over my klipsch speakers. Im sure I will get hate for this. Its a small room and im asking alot out of it.

You need to be very particular taking that approach. Drivers and cabinets go hand in hand. Cabinet volumes are specific to a set of drivers, so you need to match the cabinet volume and that doesn't even touch on damping material and internal resonances, etc. Yes, you will get flack for doing this. :D It takes a well researched scientific approach to get a good outcome. If you can't fit towers with the subs in the front, my first thought was to go with something from Arendal. They have several styles of monitors / bookshelves. ShadyJ did an in depth review of the 1723 Monitor THX and they are capable of high output and wide dynamics. In many countries you can also try them out for free as they provide free return shipping, so no cost except your time if you don't like them.

The OP seems handy, so he could build the right and left speakers of my in wall system. The crossover could be easily tweaked to add BSC. Those speakers are very high output and much higher than most towers. Those speakers fill that huge great room space at high power. Squishman has heard that system and was really surprised by its performance. Those speakers would fill his small room to ear splitting levels and then some. Those are Morel drivers and virtually identical to the old Dynaudio drivers. They have 2.5" voice coils and are very high spl. drivers.

I think the op has already decided to use the drivers from a refurb pair of DefTechs. If he has built competition cabinets before then he could have the skills to build the cabinets. I imagine the easiest method would be to match the DefTech cabinet volume and porting and use their cross-overs.
