Hi I know there are several threads but I am hoping to get the answer in this thread what is the general opinion on these units. I have a Marantz SR-7000 at the moment has Marantz kept up their quailty?

Marantz is still a great option. They have nice, high-quality units. The Yamaha and the Pioneer are more feature laden. If the Marantz does everything you want it to, why not go for it? Unless you really want something extra that the Yamaha offers, you seem pretty happy with Marantz.

The marantz 7500 is one heck of a receiver, check out www.accessories4less.com and you can get a refurb and save yourself a lot of money. that is the receiver i was looking at but couldnt justify spending the extra money over the Pioneer 1015tx for all the features it comes with (its pretty much the same thing as the Elite 52) Out of the three I like the Marantz if you can get it at a good price.

Marantz has definitely kept up their quality. Those are three very close contenders. For value, the 1015TX wins hands down. For a little better bass output, go for the Yamaha. For a no compromise, super flat sounding unit, the Marantz is the pick of the litter. It just depends on your tastes and pocketbook.

Yeah, I would have reccomended the Pioneer 1015tx, but I'm biased b/c I bought one so I think its the best receiver for anything under $800 around IMO

Marantz is on a 1yr cycle, same as most receiver manufacturers, so sometime around October we should start seeing new models from Marantz. The 7500 is a solid unit, just like the 7000 was. What speakers are you planning on driving with it?

There's an 8200, without the update, for just $500 on Audiogon right now!! That's a crazy low price - they're selling around $700-800 lately. Though it lacks some of the latest features that the 7500 includes, such as MRAC, PLIIx

I'm planning to buy PSB T55's or PSB 5T or Paradigm Monitor 7's. If not those might consider Monitor Audio orJm Lab's Chourus line?

Those are all great options. Someone's done some research! Go listen and find what you like best. I can't tell you what sounds good to your ears.

Out of the 3 choices you listed I like the Marantz the best. The 7500 is pretty loaded. Since you are a Canuck like me though you may want to consider the Pioneer 1015 like Spiffy said. You can get them from Best Buy for $699, right in your budget and brand new. The 1015 is a clone of the Elite 52, but it is actually a little ahead tech wise in some departments. That will change when the new elites come out soon. You should be able to get a Yamaha 1500 for about $800-$900 depending on where you shop. I actually own a PSB/Marantz setup and love it, but I'm not a big fan of the 5T or T55 towers. The 6T and T65 are fantastic, but to me the 5 Series lacks something when put alongside the 6 series. MA and Paradigm both sound fantastic with my Marantz as well. I'd really encourage you to shop either PSB or Paradigm if you are on a tight budget. Both are Canadian companies and we tend to get a little better pricing on them. That said Monitor Audio is clearing out their S line to make room for the RS line and if you can find some nice S series floorstanders on closeout then they are more than worth a listen.

I have the marantz 7500 paired up with the Paradigm Monitor 9's. Very very sweet setup. I spent a good 2 months shopping and researching as yourself. With the items on your list, you can't gone wrong either way. Speakers are like people, each on is different, some you will like, and some you won't. I think one cannot just look at specs, but must also listen to them. That said, that is one of the toughest jobs .........

Marantz 7400 or 7500

In term's of amp section etc any real diff between the 7400 or 7500,how do they compare to my SR-7000. Again thanks for all your advice.

7500 is THX select, which means the amp is likely a little more stout than the 7400. The 7500 also has MRAC and PLIIx, which the 7400 does not. They will probably be fairly close to the 7000 in terms of power, though the newer models seem to be a little less warm and more detailed.
