Hello,
Bumping this as I thought it was relevant to the latest video with the SR8012 un-boxing.

In the video Gene mentioned there was going to be an in depth review of the SR7012 last week and how it compared to the SR8012. Is this still in the works?

I'm interested to know how the SR7012 measured and what Audioholics thought of the build quality.

I think the build quality looks good, for measurements you are going to have to wait. For $800 difference, the SR7012 seems to be a much better deal. Or just pick up a Denon AVR-X4400H (should go down to $799 soon) now, use it for 2 years, then get the AVR-X8500H when it should be at <$2,000 brand new when the X8600H is out.

Hi Peng,
Thanks for the input!
I have a 2 channel setup right now and that 7012 is one that is on the radar to add. Looking forward to when the review is published.

Hello,

First time poster here but I've been reading the forums for several years now.
I sometimes post over at AVS Forums.

I see there's a lot of Marantz fans over here so I thought I'd ask a few questions. I'm looking to upgrade my very old Yamaha 5.1 avr from 1998. It still works well but thought I'd try something updated and different.

I've been looking at both the Marantz 7012 and 8012. Other than the 8012 being 11 channel is there any reason to pick that over the 7012 if 11 channels are not going to be used? Is the fact that it's built in Japan a better reason to pick it for reliability/build quality? I haven't seen too many members complaining about their current Marantz gear.

I've read that the Marantz receivers run pretty hot. Does the 8012 run just as hot? It looks like a nice piece of audio equipment but it's too deep for my cabinet and would require some cutting. So thinking maybe the 7012 would do the trick.

Apologize if these questions have already been answered for someone else. I tried searching but didn't see anything specific to these two.

Thanks!

Amazon has Marantz SR8012 bundle with KLIPSH SW-311 subwoofer for $2,999.00. Sub is trending $999.00. GL

Yep. That's what I use. They are silent, even with 4 fans running concurrently.

Looks like Amazon has these fans for a cheaper price.

Another option is to buy a Noctua PWM fan controller and one or more Noctua 5V PWM fans, with the largest at 20 cm. With the PWM controller you can turn down speed so that it is inaudible but still have decent air flow for cooling. The Noctua fans comes with an USB adapter that can be used to power the fans either directly or via the PWM controller.

Noctua is known for high performance silent CPU cooling, and that is in my PC along with other Noctua fans. I don't like to listen to fans....

I've two 80 mm fans on my Denon AVR-X4200W, powered by my bluray player since that is when I usually play louder, while watching TV the volume is lower and I use Auto ECO on my Denon receiver to keep power usage lower. So, two smaller as not to hinder air flow too much when not listening to music or watching movies, and also to avoid dust build up.
