I have been read alot about the sound benefits of maple, is this phony baloney or what is the deal, experts please chime in. i am moving into a new home in about two months, so all the tests will begin there- LOL
i will have to put some stands and racks to the test, and also all this snake oil that i want to put on my floor, maybe it will make my cables sound better- LOL

:::

running a tube amp, tube preamp, cd transport, B&W matrix 2 series 2...only for cd's, but the a/v system is separate for me!

Not sure what your question is. What application is this maple wood will be, flooring? What and where have you been reading about it?

There are no benefits as to wood species, where is this maple applied? Flooring? Paneling?

Maple is a dense wood that in guitars is used in necks (Strat) because it's resistance to warping and in conjunction with other woods such as mahogany is used in the body, in this configuration, such as in the Les Paul model, theory goes: mahogany enhances the lower frequencies while the maple the highs, so in guitar lingo maple is seen as a bright wood and mahogany as dark dense wood. In the Les Paul the maple and mahogany are glued together like a sandwich. The maple is on top and thinner while the mahogany is thicker and is used in approx 3/4 of the rest of the body.

As for HT, I can't see what difference maple or oak for that matter would make in sound.

Also a denser guitar has more sustain.

I have a pair of speakers that have a maple cabinet and another pair from the same line that are painted mdf (i think), I can't tell any difference in sound. They look nice though :)

It would be helpful if you specified how the maple was to be used. Is it for flooring, stands, shelves, cabinets, walls, etc...?

Are you building a cello or a component rack?

Some pure chunk o' wood equipment furniture certainly can look nice, but I highly doubt even the most expensive will make anything sound different.

I too thought the original post may have been about mapleshade and I agree that you can safely dismiss pretty much everything they sell as audio voodooo.

Birdseye or quilted maple looks damn good on a guitar body, too

I couldn't begin to guess about the maple, but I can tell you that when I needed an additional shelf in my cabinet I used some 1/2 inch oak plywood I had left over from another project (instead of finding another glass shelf similar to the ones it came with). I could hear a difference (for the worse) with the plywood. I wound up switching some components around to get the player back onto a glass shelf and the XBox onto the plywood.

BE ADVISED: to the "hard-and-fast" types; I didn't measure anything, I didn't pay an exorbitant amount of money for this shelf (it was basically free), and have only my subjective observations to which to refer.
BE ADVISED: "Warm-and-Fuzzy" types; I'm not going out to buy myrtlewood blocks, $100/pr speakercable insulators, or cryogenically treated German replacement fuses. I neither know nor care whether or not glass/maple/plywood/slate/isolation plates/slings made from angora goat testicle fur is purportedly the best way to install and support AV equipment. I am simply offering an experience of my own for your evaluation: my 2 cents, if you will.

Bryan...guess that makes me Hard-and-Fuzzy (thank goodness my wife likes me that way)...:D

Yup Major,

Only problem: the price goes through the roof.....I've had my eyes on a Gibson Custom Shop AAA quilted top Les Paul, but I can't stomach the asking price. It's cheaper for me to go to a luthier and get a "real" custom made instrument.

Fly,

The angora goat testicle sling has been proven to work scientifically, somehow. I know because STEREOVILE had an article where everyone heard the difference. The problem is you first have wear the testicles over different parts of your head: ears, eyes, etc, etc. It's rumored MAPLESYRUPSHAM.com will have it instock for Christmas. Around 950.00 (per testicle) order soon you know they're going to fly (or bounce)out the door.

This thing here looks like a power strip from Dollar General.

And with statements like this one, well you just read and see.

To quote Mapleshade Audio Products-
I've heard $2000 speakers with off-the-rack wires that sounded worse than little $100 Radio Shacks with good cables. Twenty years of striving to make perfect-sounding recordings has taught me that WIRE IS A COMPONENT JUST AS CRUCIAL AS SPEAKERS OR AMPS..
Right, which $2000 speakers did he listen to, Theater Research?
