Magnepan MMG support system

I was determined to use MMG's in my small (11.5' x 17' x 8') living room. I wanted to suspend them off the floor in such a way that if they didn't work, i could send them back to Magnepan in perfect condition. My solution was to use a Bogen/Manfrotto Autopole system i had in my basement photo studio. It turned out to work perfectly, so the Maggies are now part of my HT living room system.
Here's some photos of the Bogen Superclamp attachments i used to position the MMG's away from the wall & angled into my couch listening area.
So i needed 2 Autopoles ($155), 6 Superclamps ($25 ea.), 2, 6" extensions ($16), & 2 J-Hooks ($10) to complete the set-up.
Brand new from B&H Photo around $330,

I used some small paver bricks to give them a more solid base than my ugly wall to wall carpeting. The spring loaded design keeps them very secure & at high volume they didn't rattle or shift position. The heavy suction cups at the top will leave marks on your ceiling unless you put paper or something in between. Their are lots of options with the Autopoles including extensions for higher ceilings, bases for a floor support etc.
I know this set-up is kinda pricey but considering my akward room & the price of MMG's, i'm elated with being able to keep them & thought it might help other people who have less than ideal rooms for the smaller Magnepans.

New York SOHO Loft style...
Also, i should add that you could easily suspend a 3rd MMG between the poles for a center channel.

Here's a better photo of the angle from the wall...
Have you tried using them further out into the room? It looks like you have them closer to the back wall than Magnepan recommends.

If you look at my photos, you can see that i don't have the room to move them further out. But all is fine, they sound wonderful & the soundstage doesn't seem constricted by their asymetrical placment. Yesterday i finally recieved my Rythmik E15 SE-B Subwoofer and so far it's a perfect, seemless match to the MMG's.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you aren't married. ;)

Either that or you have the most understanding female I've ever heard of. I'll be it sounds great though.

Well, (The GF) she knew i was an artist 10 years ago when i met her & my apartments were always littered with workbenches, photo studio equipment & lotsa stereo junk, so this latest stereo incarnation wasn't too much of a surprise for her. I can't wait to introduce her to the new headphone, amp & cable i'm gettin for x-mas.

Cool, I am looking to mount my future MMG's up in my small room. Can you compare the sound quality due to placement of the speakers when on the floor vs. mounted up?

That is the main thing.

There are always guidelines, but as long as the end result is fantastic sound, that is all that matters.

I'm glad to know they sound great even with little distance from the wall.

GREAT IDEA! I love the matching Stands too. My wife would have have no problem with that. She would just say, "Whatever makes the system sound the best".
