I have been looking for a nice vintage Magnavox turntable for my entertainment room, I have some concerns however. I cannot locate any documentation about a Magnavox Automatic 400? I found one at a good price but I am concerned about performance, has anyone ever heard or seen this turntable?? The one in reference if it matters is on a site I’ve never heard of before - Snasy.com

That's a very nasty low end turntable from the sixties and will eat up your records for lunch quicker than a hungry lion and damage any decent cartridge quicker than you can say "Jack Robinson." Those turntables needed robust crystal type cartridges. Modern equipment only handles magnetic types requiring RIAA equalization with 47 kohm 3 to 5mv input impedance. Crystal types require an input of 1 to 2 megohm input impedance with 50 to 100 mv sensitivity.

All turntables of that type are nasty with nothing nice about them.

What is your budget? Then we can recommend a nice vintage turntable.

I have to basically agree. I don't know that particular unit but I do know what Magnavox made/used as a whole.

Unless you're in the midst of doing a period correct restoration of an old piece of gear, there's a plethora of other, far far superior, record playing devics out there, as well as modern kit.
