I think we can argue all day long about pros and cons, but at the end of the day, it's all about the prices for most people, and most people will buy the cheaper one.:D

I bet if Mac cost exactly like comparable PC, more people would go to Mac.

I guess Mac is making enough money; they don't care about dropping their prices too much.

My brother & his wife have been working IT for the last 15 years. I don't see them using any Mac at home. :D

My other brother is Electrical Engineer + Computer Science, my brother-in-law is also EE, my wife is Computer Science, and I don't see any of them using Mac anytime soon either.

I know a few IT people at my hospital. None of them use Mac either.

What does that mean?

They like their PCs as much as the Mac people like their Macs.:D

You can configure several other brands to cost more and in one or two cases a LOT more.
Oh dude, yes, but when you see three GTX580's running Black Ops across three 30" screens, the $6000 price tag suddenly seems worth it.

LOL maybe, but I am not a gamer. I think a mac pro would certainly be a formidable game machine though.

Well, having twelve cores is nice and a SINGLE 5870 card is nice too, but unfortunately this is not ideal configuration for gaming (granted we bootcamp win7 on macpro)

Custom built pc (or value gamer pc brand builder) at same cost will run circles around mac pro as far games go easily and will cost same or less
The thing is most games only use two core at most, most are still heavily single threaded, most of heavy lifting is still done by GPU - multiple even better.
Last time I checked Mac Pro supports Crossfire ONLY with a lesser 5770 card and not much better 5870

p.s: I run newer Sandy Bridge cpu and dual 5770 cards and home and I get very respectable gaming speeds, but I couldn't be able to push video to tripple 30" screens

Unfortunately, only some games take full advantage of a 2.93GHz 12 core system. Most newer games see massive fps increases with a graphics card upgrade, not a processor upgrade. Something like a 2.93GHz 12-core Mac Pro with 64GB of ECC RAM and the 1GB HD 5870 would be probably the most killer computer ever for massive CAD renderings or processing special effects for a three hour 1080p movie.

Alternatively, you could run F@H on all 12 cores and the 5870, and probably pull in ~5,000ppd.

Like I said I am not a gamer so I don't know what makes a good game machine. I am more into audio/photo and video on my computer which is why I have always used a mac.

On a side note; the argument that macs are not this because fewer people use them, or macs don't get viruses because fewer people use them, or macs don't have that because few people use them is kinda stupid. I can guarantee fewer people drive a Ferrari than a Ford Focus, but I damn well guarantee you the Ferrari will kick the Ford's a$$. Market share don't mean $hit. Oh and by the way, Apple is the worlds largest tech company or have you been paying attention BSA?:p:):D

To tell you all the truth I could take Satellite, Cable, Internet, TV, Computers, and toss it all in the garbage tomorrow and not miss any of it. I am starting to really get sick of it all.

That's why I leave the electronics to when it's not nice outside.

And Ferrari's market focus is limited to those with the bankroll to purchase a $200,000+ car while Ford's focus is everyone. That's really a pretty weak analogy. Just sayin'. (A Mac does not equate to a Ferrari.)

I would imagine that this rig would outpace/outperform any comparably priced Macbook Pro. A 17" Macbook Pro begins at $2500. Pretty steep just for a larger screen. BTW, xoticpc is recognized as a reputable place to buy laptops on the gaming forums...

Interesting tidbit regarding laptops and who makes them: Who really makes your laptop.

This has turned into a pissing match between Mac and PC people. Both products are decent. Both OSes are decent. I have zero troubles with Windows 7 and have never crashed and Windows OS while I have routinely crashed Mac products or received the "wheel of death" requiring a hard reboot. Does it mean Macs suck? Nope. I have a gift.

I am more comfortable on a PC only because I use them more. Both serve their purposes and focuses.

(personally, regarding the whole virus thing, IMHO Windows has more viruses because more major corporations are Windows based. Follow the money...Market share does play into the equation. If you're writing a virus and wish to do the most damage, where would you start? Windows.)

I must have missed the undertones. Seemed pretty relaxed already. :)

Now, how many other people put their monitor cables on risers to reduce electrical interference?

Ok then change it to a BMW, Lexus, or Infinity then. Jeesh! :) my point is that you are paying a little more for the added overall improvement in build quality is still valid, and in a couple of cases you are not paying any more for the nicer build quality of a mac.

I must have missed them too. Some people think you are arguing when you just don't agree with them I guess:confused:

Who says macs cost more? Look what I just picked up for a hundred bucks!!! I am starting to dig the track pad with gestures. Once you get used to it it's pretty cool.

Bragger!!! :D :D

Congrats on that score! I saw when you mentioned that before, but I was too jealous to say anything. :p I suppose that we can agree that new Macs tends to cost more.

I just got that capability with my new Air last week. It is pretty cool, I agree! For some gestures I need to use more fingers...maybe I haven't mastered how much space to have between my fingers (leave it alone, Alex...just walk away :D).

It all comes to what you have and use and what you can afford. Mac or PC, both work and both do the job.

Did you bite the bullet on anything yet?

I had one of these with the floppy drive, controllers and printer. I even upgraded it with 128k which allowed me to run the spell check on the WP program I had. Old school!
