Here is an overview I wanted to do for some time. M&K has been a long time favorite of mine since I started in this hobby. I'm going to concentrate this short overview on their awesome S300 Bookshelf Speaker which has been one of my favorite speakers since its introduction.
As all M&K driver products, the S300's drivers are made by Scan Speak of Denmark which has been recognized as one of the top as the standard of transducers by audiophiles all around the globe. The S300 features a triple-tweeter array combined/connected in parallel to a dual mid/woofer driver array.
According to M&K, with a multiple tweeter array design, the power load on each tweeter is reduced to one third which translates into reduced distortion. M&K also claims the design allows a lower crossover point to be employed for better integration with the mid/woofers and a larger sweet spot. Those familiar with the former S150 bookshelf know its mirror image performance. The S300 shares some of the same characteristics, but with some added advances like rear mounting on both the tweeters and mid/woofers into separate, specially designed brackets that are then rear mounted to the front baffle for a clean look. Another important aspect to mention is its cabinet which has been designed to isolate each driver. This method eliminates any major source of coloration found in conventional loudspeaker designs. The speaker itself is covered by a black cloth grill held in place by magnets.
