Low Profile Rear & Sub Suggestions

I've got a pair of old Vandersteen 2C's that I've had for years. I've never really driven them well and am investing in a Rotel RSX-1056 A/V Receiver. I'll mostly be running them solo for music, but I want a complete 5.1 set up for watching films. I plan on getting the Vandersteen center and am looking for an inexpensive pair of low profile rears that can be mounted on stands by the corners of my couch. I'd really like these items to be as small and unobtrusive as possible. I'm thinking along the lines of the RBH MM-4 speakers or maybe some Boston Acoustic Micros (though I can't seem to find stands for these). As for the sub, maybe something from RBH, though honestly I'm not really sure. Basically I would be happy finding a nice 2.1 system to add to my Vandersteens, but I'll piece it together if I have to. Could this be done for $3-500?

Any thoughts? Thanks.

A really good sub that will match your quality fronts usually starts at about that point. However, there are some decent options. Athena makes a nice rear surround speaker that may work well for you. They are fairly reasonable and small. There have been some good reports about the Cadence X-sub on the forum. It is quite inexpensive. I would say spend the $500 on a good sub, and look for a quality pair of bookshelf or rear speakers used or on closeout. That is one man's opinion though.

Yeah, my budget doesn't really allow for matching the Vandersteens. If it did I'd probably just get a Vandersteen sub. Going 5.1 on this system is really an afterthought. Speaking to my local Vandersteen dealers, they felt that for the ambient sound and the rumble that the rears and sub will bring, I could get away with something in the more average consumer level. They did however recommend the center Vandersteen to compliment the fronts properly. I'm no fan of the size of their center, but I'll make it work. I'd go for a couple of their smaller VLR's for the rears if I had the space. I just don't.
