When I switched from satellite to cable TV, I noticed the picture quality was not as good. Now, I also discovered when I turn my receiver to an input that is not being used with the volume up a little, I can hear a low frequency humming noise coming out the speakers. I think I have it narrowed down. When I disconnect the cable input line going to the power divider the noise stops. Looks like it's the cable line coming into the house is at fault. I'm sure this is causing the poor picture quality also.

Is there anything I can do myself before I call the cable guy? There are some connections before it gets to the TV. There is a splitter to run to the router for high speed, maybe that has something to do with it.

I read that before I posted my topic. I don't know why I didn't understand it the first time I read it.

My next question will by better, I promise.

Amazing discovery. When I by-pass the Monster Cable HTS 700 with "clean power" and plug the incoming cable line directly to the cable box, the hum gets a lot worse. I guess the "clean power" actually does something.

There seems to be an isolator in it for your cable line.

Alright, I bought this RCA RF amplifier model DT100M from best buy, sales person recommended it. It made the picture better but the low Hz hum is still there. Well, after reading the package, I don't think it has a filter in it, just an amplifier. Best buy says I can take it back if it don't do what I want.

I would check outside the house for the grounding rod and proper connections leading from the dish\cable system.

It could be that it is not grounded or poorly grounded.

Some can work loose from lawn maintenance.
