im looking for a cheap decent amplifier to drive either 2 speakers at 250wpc or 4 speakers at 200wpc. looking to keep it under 300 bucks, i know it wont be a macintosh or adcom or anything, but i just need it to sound ok and put out the power. any suggestions?

i looked at that crown and it says for musical instruments, would i need to get an eq to make it sound right? or is there no difference

I'd get a Yamaha P2500S It's a tad bit more than 300, but it's very quiet and has gobs of power. I do suggest you check around the Pro Power Amps. They can give you a lot of power for a good price.

Pro amps are designed to be linear, an EQ would not be needed unless your speakers don't sound right to you from the start.

Yamaha P2500S is a great recommendation. If budget is your game, the Behringer EP2500 (AKA EP4000) are good choices for cheap clean power. The Behringer fan runs all the time, and it's kinda of noisy though.

The Crowns aren't bad either. With your budget, it looks like pro amps are your own option.
