This is in regards to receiving a mailer from Lovesac today announcing "Stealthtech".

In short, these are modular couches with speakers and charging stations built into them. It looks like there are two different speakers used in different combinations, "by Harman Kardan". These replace the usual sides with a version that incorporates up-firing and side-firing speakers, and then a sub that can go under seat cushions. In addition, there are charging stations that can be incorporated for conveniently charging phones, laptops, etc.

I was curious what this forum may have to say about the sound components here.

I have to admit that I am extremely skeptical of the 'quality' of this sort of setup. And, in no way is this going to replace my 9.2.6 dedicated speaker setup. However.....
  • If you are familiar with WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor), I wonder if these may be an option for some people, under some circumstances.
  • In my prior history (poorer, no dedicated rooms, apartments, etc. etc.) I have had to experiment with various substandard sound setups, and one of my least favorites was resorting to in-ceiling and in-wall speakers. I do wonder if this actually may be just as equivalent, though have some benefits (don't have to install, cut holes, you can take them with you if you move, higher WAF, etc.)
  • I am legitimately considering getting one of these subs to see what it's like to sit on one! (add to my dual SVS Ultra subs)
Any thoughts?

I have to make two disclosures:
1. I have a 6 seat sactional in my theater room and I LOVE IT. It is embarrassing to admit how much these things cost, but I adore my couch and I highly recommend considering them.
2. I am admittedly very skeptical about this "Stealthtech" and may come across a bit sarcastic?

While I have a tactile transducer mounted under my seat, having speakers in the rest of the seating doesn't even interest me.

In an open concept home, I can see how adding side speakers and a subwoofer might be a really good idea. Just your surrounds and sub. Throw in an option for integrated amplification and wireless receiver. Then you have something which is FAR more useful than whatever the hell this monstrosity is. Even worse, for the nearly $3,000 it costs as an add-on, it barely gets any real information put on the website about it.

Yikes, that’s awful. If I want muffled sound on my couch that's a little boomy, I just fart.;)

I think you can achieve a better result with a DIY option using normal components vs. the cost of what they're offering. It is a great idea to include it in the design, but not necessarily the best execution. Built in chargers has existed in furniture for a few years and I don't see it as a benefit.
