Well, I went and bought the Harman Kardon AVR7200 receiver, and have to say that I'm not sure what to think. When I put a music CD in my DVD player I can crank that Harman Kardon AVR7200 receiver more (Loader) than my Yamaha ever could and the sound quality is unbelievable, but when I put a DVD in I cant get it to crank up to the same volume level as with a Music CD. When I'm watching a shoot'em up movie I turn them up and the volume wont go any higher, and my old Yamaha was much louder when watching a DVD or my Sat. TV. I tried messing with all the different setting and still couldn’t get that volume up there! I'm going to try to contact Harman Kardon and see what they say.

Are you using toslink/optical? If you are only using a right & left RCA, you will not be getting everything.

toslink/optical? What is that? I know what optical is but dont have any devices (DVD Player, Sat.) that has the optical outputs.

It is the digital output! Now that you have a receiver that decodes the signal, as bad as I hate to be the one to tell you this, it's time to update that old dvd player!

I think I overpaid for my Yamaha S840 after reading about the Pioneer & Toshiba universal models recommended on this site. I believe the Pioneer is favored. You might want to ask for a model recommendation on this forum!

Or for more money, and the best, look at the Denon 2200 or 2900.

You may want to read the review of the new Yamaha on the Audioholic site. More money than I have to throw around on a dvd player though!

Definitely not cheap... We are really trying to get our acts together on thise recommended systems and shoudl have most of them updated shortly.

We really want that to be a great (current) resource and intend to keep it updated so that its never more than a couple months old.

I love the site. Wish I knew about Audioholics before I made my purchases! I would have done a few things differently!
