I just got the Paradigm Mini Monitors v.4, and I am totally thrilled about the purchase. These speakers really made my Onkyo receiver come alive.
I do need some advice, though, as these are my first "high-end" speakers... It seems really important that I (the listener) be in the direct projection field of these speakers and have them elevated enough to benefit from best sound.
I have a very simple set-up - just two speakers and a subwoofer. I listen to the music only, no movies.
My room is small, measuring about 12.5 ft long by 11.5 ft wide. There's a 6-ft wide window centered on the 11.5-ft wall, and in the wall opposite the window, there's a cut-out for the narrow hallway leading out of my room. I spend most of my time sitting in front of the window, with it being to my side (I have two workdesks, which run along the 12.5-ft walls on either side of the window, so sometimes I sit with the window to my right, and sometimes facing the opposite wall with the window to my left).
1) Would it make most sense to position my speakers along the wall opposite the window, so that the speakers would be as far away from me as possible, given the small size of this room?
2) I read that the tweeters should be at the ear-level, but if I wanted to compromise between me standing and me sitting down, is it better to have the speakers elevated too high or too low from the ground?
3) I read that the main speakers should be separated by about half the distance from the listener... Is that correct?
4) Finally, my Mini Monitors have a port in the rear... I read here that the distance between the speakers and the wall behind them should be at least 2-3 times the port diameter... For me, that distance would be about 21 cm - about 2/3 of a foot. Since my system isn't audiophile-grade, and I don't drive the speakers to ear-popping volumes (in fact, I can't...), could I get away with having them closer to the wall? Ideally, I would love to be able to wall-mount these things using the B-Tech BT77 mount, since floor space is at a premium in my room, but I was wondering if that won't work with the rear-ported Minis... The speakers are pretty deep and would maybe have 1 port diameter distance from the wall if mounted...
Whatever advice is welcome as I'm trying to make a few placement decisions... It's the first time I have speakers good enough to even worry about their placement! yay
