I guess he does not buy into the philosophy of three indentical speakers across the front giving the most seamless sound as all have the exact same timbre.

Good point. For hi-rez music, 5 identical speakers would be the ideal.

Back to point . Rutlanda, get the Ascends. If you don't like them, send them back. Simple as that. Ascend has many many reviews from both financially biased and unbiased reviewers and the vast majority are positive. What does that say? It says you should feel comfortable giving them an audition.

I finally got speakers

Well...I ended up getting the Energy C-5s. My local dealer had them on the floor at 40% ($450) off and encouraged me to take them home and audition them for the weekend. I have to say they more than fit the bill. They match my Angstrom rears and they sound awesome! I have heard no problems in the front stage with the Polk center. The transitions are seamless to my ears. I am more than happy with my purchase and I'm very thankful to have a local dealer who puts customer service number one. I'll post pics as soon as possible. Thanks to all of you who commented. I saved so much money, I think I will order the Ascend CBM-170s for my small two channel rig. Thanks again! Aaron
