I am new to true Home Theater. We have been enjoying our 60" Mitsubishi rear projection TV for a couple years without any HT speakers. Well I just bit the bullet and ordered what I hope to give me a huge bang for the buck. Spent $2400

I would welcome all opinions.

Just ordered all this stuff on-line last night so I don't have any of it yet. Just tracking numbers.

Yamaha RX-V2500 910 Watt 7.1 receiver.
Axiom Epic 50 speaker package

already have:

Mitsubishi 60" rear projection
DirecTV RCA Tivo DVR
Sony DVP-NS400D DVD
Mitsubishi HS-U590 VCR

My living room is 12x23x8

I did as much research as I could. Started out with a budget of $1300. Was looking at the Yam RX-V750 with either Cambridge Soundworks or Definitive speakers. I am embarrassed to say I slightly went over budget by over $1000 buying what I got instead. :D Hope I spent wisely This Home Theater stuff is expensive.

WOW! Looks like someone did their homework! I almost bought the Axioms, but went with MB Quart because of past experience. Let us know how it sounds. My mother has had problems with her Mitsu big screen. Very costly. I think this is common for rear projection tv's. Not sure. I know they have a great picture!

Did you listen to this package? Did you at least listen to the speakers? Can you return it all easily? I'm sure the quality is there, both Yamaha and Axiom produce well built products so you most likely won't have any issues there. Hopefully you like how it all sounds.

good luck,

Do you have an HD signal connected to your Mitsubishi? If not it's time to get one so you can really take advantage of the DD surround sound you'll be able to hear through your new sound system. Not to mention the incredible picture of the Mitshbishi.

I think you can rest easy for the next 5 or 6 years (or until Sony comes up with some other entirely new format).. judging from the set-up, you;ll be resting easy, but your neighbors won't.... :D

Rock'n!

Wow, that sounds like a great set up. I acutally too am looking at the Yamaha 2500, Axiom 60, with a Samsung DLP. I'm torn between the Axiom which I believe would a little more musical, but for HT, I love the Def Tech 7000 series. I actually have two rooms that I'm setting up, and the first setup with the Yamaha/Axiom duo, and the other I may try the Denon 3805 with the Def Techs. Still a little ways off, but those are the two right now.

Let us know how things work out!! :)

I have the Axiom 60's combined with a Yammy 3300.Have a friend who just got a Samsung 50" DLP,B&K AVR-507,& the Axiom 50's with the EP-175 & QS4's.

I can 1st tell you that the Axiom 60's sound crystal clear with the Yamaha but lack a bit in the low end.I have since added a 200 watt amp to each of the 60's & the change was immense. They now sound full & warm at all volumes.I have a sub but only fixed bass management so adding the amps was something I wanted to try. They work great for HT as well ( I change the mains to "small" for HT & let the sub do some work).

As for the 50's,they sound great paired with the B&K but much more laid back. The AVR-507 is supposed to be 150wpc(?),retails at $4K(he got it for $2500),& generally regarded a class above all but the flagship Yammys. It SHOULD sound smoother. And since the 50's have no mid-range driver it isn't surprising that they wouldn't sound quite as forward for vocals as the 60's do.

The QS4's(if thats what you are getting) are nice, heavy little units that should be handled carefully during installation. If your just going to use the T brackets to mount them you'll need some wall anchors because just using 2 screws in the stud(center top & bottom of bracket) won't keep them flush to the wall. They are a great sounding speaker.

I think you'll be happy.
