Hi,

I'm looking for some new home theater speakers to replace my 8 year old Acoustic Research HC6 HTiB speaker set. I have a new subwoofer on the way, so I don't need a sub. I'm not opposed to only purchasing new fronts for now and picking up new rears later.

My budget is $1000, although I could spend a little more, I'd like to stay close to $1000.

My living room is my home theater room, and it's roughly 13'x23'6", with a vaulted ceiling starting at 8' and rising to 15'6". The living room has a 5'6"x7' opening to the dining room, which in turn opens to a large kitchen. The living room also has an open stairwell leading upstairs.

I'd really like the speakers to be black w/ black grilles.

The electronics these speakers will be matched with are an Onkyo 606 receiver, Panasonic 50" 720p plasma, DirecTV HD DVR, PS3 for gaming and Blu-Ray, and a Roku Netflix box.

Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

I'll be the first to throw out an idea. SVS Speakers I haven't had a chance to hear them but I haven't seen a bad review and I'm looking forward to listening to them. There are many other brands out there too. I like Paradigm, but I'm not sure what would fit in your budget off the top of my head a Monitor bookshelf system would sound pretty nice.

What new sub are you getting?

I'll add Aperion Audio to the mix. 30-day risk free trial (they'll pay shipping both ways, so there is no out-of-pocket expense at all if you don't like them). They come in gloss black with black grilles. I have never heard or read anything bad about them.

They also have an upgrade policy that will give you a full-price trade-in for up to a year if you decide that you want a different (more expensive) package.

EMP has great deals at audioholics.com. I know many people are pleased with them.

If you have a KEF dealer in the area then give those speakers an audition.

My first question is to ask do you like your current speakers?

Don't fix what aint broke.

If not what needs the most upgrading?

For under a grand you can get an Infinity Primus set up that lots of people including myself are pretty happy with.
