Been doing some researching. What's you guys thought on diy sub? Do they perform just was good as the ones recommended? Any real advantage price wise? I've seen a few kits.

Back in the day (long time ago) I've built several car audio subs.

Just wanted to get some input from others that have built them.

Thanks.

Plus this:

This will kick ass to most commercially available subs by a good degree.

p.s: Optional: You could add a minidsp and umic mike if you want to get fancy with Bass fine EQ

Catches: You should have few (at least 4-6 large clamps) and PL wood glue. Finish is up to you. Most people just spray can black few coats and few clears coats.

Or along the same lines...to get duals, two of these http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-12-reference-series-ho-subwoofer-and-cabinet-bundle--300-7092. While the Crown XLS amps I like (I have four of them) and have quiet fan operation, for a bit more fan noise the Behringer iNuke DSP amps are quite capable (and wouldn't need the minidsp as their dsp is more extensive, including high pass filters and eq that the XLS lacks); the iNuke 3000DSP might be a nice fit http://www.parts-express.com/behringer-nu3000dsp-inuke-3000-watt-power-amplifier-with-dsp--248-6706.

Yes, inuke DSP has more features than XLS, but I specifically didn't recommended Behringer amps for very loud fans and more than some reliability concerns. (you could mod the fan, but loose warranty)
Also crowns are easier to integrate due to unbalanced inputs (RCA) and simple speakers binding posts.

True enough. I went with XLS for the fan reason primarily myself (and was using minidsp anyways). I've not seen much about reliability issues when mods aren't involved. The connection thing can be overcome easily enough with adapter rca/ts or rca/xlr cables; I prefer the speakon connectors for the speaker/sub connections but it is nice to have options. The Crown XLS (gen2 at least, my gen1s don't) also has two settings for input sensitivity which might come in handy. I believe the Crown warranty is a bit better, too.

ps The iNuke 3000 would be better for the dual application, or maybe the XLS 2002/2502 for duals....
