Looking for Cheap, self powered speakers...

...to be used in my bathroom. My intention is for something cheap I can use with the zone 2 in my Denon 2805 reciever. Sound quality isn't a huge issue, I don't plan on using them for extended periods. Also, I live in a small apartment. At some point down the road when I move I will look for something better.

I have been using some basic cheap speakers (6 ohm AIWA's) in my bathroom that I found laying around, and powering them from the A/B switch on the reciever. My mains are 4 ohm and i'm paranoid of leaving both A and B on by accident and cooking my reciever.

Also, should I look for outdoor speakers? (sometimes I like a nice long steamy shower)
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

TIA
Jeff

I doubt you could damage your receiver, as you would need to have both speakers turned up very, very loud.

I've used a pair of Tannoy 'all-weather' speakers before, which were quite good. They did sound fine, but as with most small speakers, they lacked bass.

Zone 2 and A/B switch are not the same thing. If you power zone 2 from the receiver, you are using a separate set of channels completely, while if you use A/B you are using the same channel and you COULD cause damage, but it will be more likely to be to the speakers not the receiver. If the impedance load is too much for the receiver, it will likely shut itself down before any damage occurs to it, so you probably don't have to worry much about the receiver. I would definitely use the zone 2 option rather than A/B.

If they are going to be in the BR or very near the shower, then yes, I'd probably go with outdoor speakers.

I'm currently using the built in zone 2 amp for the SB channel. On some movies it makes no difference, but on the ones that it does, it is very noticeable.

That is why I've been using the A/B switch. But a few times I've left both on by accident. My fronts are 4 ohms and the ones in the BR are 6 ohm. I don't know how low that makes them together, but it's too low for me to be comfortable.

Do you think a powered setup for a computer will work? I've got one buried somewhere.

Thanks

Jeff
