Instead of concentrating the treatments around the speakers, you may want to concentrate on the first reflection points in regards to the listening position instead.
Yeah, I was thinking that too, and I'm probably going to buy another box just for that, but so far, with about half of them up, it's really helped. I'm only running the treble down "2.0 DB" and it's pretty tolerable, (There is a lot of "air") at least for a couple of hours at a time, listening to music. I put in a movie and it sounded really good the way it is, at least with just the fronts, center and sub.
I went to a fairly high end store here locally yesterday morning, and listened to 4 different sets of small speakers and they were all too hot for my tastes, but I would say the SVS SBS-01s were better in imaging than any of them. I really hated the Paradigm Mini Monitors with the CC-370 and ADP-370's, I thought they just sounded odd, not realistic at all. None of them sounded as good as the little SVS's, so I'm gonna keep them. I think once I get all the tiles up, I will be running it close to flat, maybe one or two clicks down on the treble. I think a parametric EQ would let me take out a notch on the upper end, and that would "fix it".
I did hear a really nice set of B&W's there at that place, that were great, and greatly out of my price range and they wouldn't fit in my room anyway. The only speakers I heard that really "grabbed me", and that was because there wasn't the overdone high end. They sounded nearly perfect.
One thing about the SVS SCS-01 center. It sounds almost exactly like the Optimus "Linaeum" center I was using, except the bass is better on it. I really liked dialog on it, it was very clear, much better than several friends with center speakers that seem to do nothing to help with dialogue, just music.
I had to get rid of it though, it was a total mismatch with all the front speakers I've used so far, way more efficient to the point it totally overpowered the fronts, and couldn't be taken down far enough with the old Sony. The 659 might be different, haven't got all the speakers hooked up yet.
