I have a home in the pre-construction phase and am wanting the following:
1. In-Wall or In-Ceiling speakers (no preference/would one be better suited?)
a. Surround Sound in the living room
b. Music listening in 3 other bedrooms.

Having someone come out to do the prewiring for the above. He will be placing a volume switch in every room (3 other bedrooms) to controll the volume in each room.

Budget
$2000.00 for speakers (3 bedrooms / 1 speaker each) and living room (sub + # of speakers for surround?).

Is there a receiver that someone can recomend that would allow me to accomplish the above

Budget
$1000.00 for receiver

Total budget is $3K

I am open to any and all suggestions and positive criticism.

Hey Fella, I am a newbie to this forum too. I am trying to understand the questions. You are looking for surround sound in the bedroom? Do you mean you want the surround channels of the receiver piped into the bedroom while you are watching a movie in another room?

You know, you could probably get a good used multi-channel amplifier and pre-amp / surround processor for the same price as you'd spend on a receiver (in your budget range) except with much greater performance. It is what I would do most definetely. Buy a Parasound or Rotel multichannel amp, they are good value for the money.

Home Audio

What I am wanting to accomplish is having surround sound in the living room when watching movies on the 50 inch LCD. Occasionally I will want to listen to the radio/cd and would like to have the ability to have audio for music listening in all of the rooms. Any recomendations on speakers (make / model) with the above budget. I was considering the Polk Audio RC265i but after reading through this forum it appears that you are able to get better quality speakers for the same price if not lower.

I would say in-walls would image better then in-ceiling speakers. However, they both are beaten by box speakers.

I would use ceiling speakers for background music in other rooms.

In-wall

Which in-wall's (make/model) would you recommend for good surround sound?

Just to clarify. You want in-wall/ceilings only, not in room speakers, for the living room 5/7.1 system? What are you thinking of using for the center channel (in-room/wall)? I usually recommend the Polk speakers first for people on tighter budgets. They offer great performance/buck and are the easiest to procure. Do you have a size limitation for the sub? For sub recommendations, what are the dimensions of your living room?

Would you like a single mono or stereo in-ceiling speakers in the other rooms? Most two zone capable receivers could handle mono speakers, but a separate amp may be required for the stereo setups.

Where is the main listening position located in relation to a rear wall, for surround considerations?
