I now have a logitech z5500 in mt room and its pretty good but the amplification is really not all that good 60wx5 @10%THD. I would like to upgrade my speakers and everything but what would be a good cheap 5.1 reciever. I dont care about lots of features all i want is good clean powerful amplification and the basic surround sound options. How are these choices

This sub will blow away your Z5500. TRUST ME. I have the Z5500 and the setup actually performs well for what it is. Considering its a plastic cube, mass market system, it's not bad, for what it is. It performs much better then most mass market stuff which is mostly crap. But, for not alot of money, you can upgrade that setup and get considerably better performance. I did it not too long ago with my PC setup. Good luck!

Just for reference, here's what I upgraded my Z500 with. http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57601&page=5
It's a simple 2-channel setup that blows away every cheap 5.1. set I can think of. Of course, a sub would improve the performance. But this sounds much better then integrating a cheap boomy sub. id rather just not have a sub for a while and just save up for a good one. Actually, for near field music listening like you would use a PC for, it's really not that neccessary, IMO. Oh well, just something to chew on. :)
