Looking for a narrow HT AV receiver

Hello,

I'm in need of some help.

I have been looking without luck for a narrow home theater receive.

Are there any receiver models out there that measure less than 15 1/2 inches in width?

I currently have a Sony STR-DE835 and it has served its purpose well.

The reason I am currently looking for a narrow receiver to replace this one is do to my wife purchasing a new entertainment center with shelves that are only 16 inches wide.

A 5.1 digital or better receiver if preferred.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

The standard width of a receiver is 17 1/8". Height and depth vary somewhat but width seems to be fairly constant.

MDS,

Thanks for the reply.

That’s kind of the issue I'm encountering.

I am aware that most receivers are a standard 17" in width.

I was just curious if anyone on here happened to know of any models which are narrower.

Thanks for the post,

Mike

You'd be suprised. I've seen many 'entertainment' centers that have 16" wide shelves like Kicker has to deal with now. Even 'high end' AV stands, like StudioTech, are just barely wide enough (18").

Kicker, I personally don't know any receivers that are less wide than 17" but I know a lot of the digital switching receivers are both shorter and less deep than standard receivers so there is a chance something like that may fit the width requirement. There was a big to do about Panasonic digital receivers not too long ago (as in a lot of people were saying they sound great). Onkyo and HK dabbled in that segment too. Maybe investigate those options, you might get lucky.

MDS,

I was hoping that I was not going to have to go with a digital switching receiver, but it was something I was contemplating.

Thanks for your help and input,

Mike

Teac reference series, but they have nothing new (no HDMI). They are super cool though, also super rare.:(

Hay! That's what I was going to say! :D

Amazon.com carries Teac now and then:
Teac AG-H550
Teac Reference 500 AG-H500
Teac DR-L700

They even have matching DVD players:
Teac DV-H550
Teac DV-H350
The Teac DR-L700 and DV-H350 should more than likely be avoided. I would probably even avoid the DV-550, they seem to have an in general problem with DVD players. The DR-L700 needs a matching 3 channel amplifer to function fully, as it has only 2 channels built in (class T/tripath).
