Hello people,

I got this site from a friend and he told me the people here could help me. :)

I'm a newbie when it comes to audio hardware, so here's my situation:

I recently acquired a nice plasma TV but unfortunately the sound quality is weak. So now I'm looking to buy a nice little set up to listen to TV and music from my computer. I'm looking to spend about 500$. It doesn't have to be perfectly fit for my room since I'm probably gonna move in some time... It's an average sized bedroom with some furniture in it.

I have no idea about which parts are needed? However I would like to be able to listen to 24bit / 96khz rips. I'm on a cheap laptop, so I would probably also need some kind of external sound card?

I hope I told you everything needed for some advice, if not I'll gladly answer any questions! :)

Thanks a lot for any help :D

Are you looking for just a simple plug and play or a system that requires receiver and speakers?

Plug and play system, most simple and have decent sound: Logitech z5500 can easily be found for under $200 when its on sale. Not the best but cheap and simple. Seem to get a lot of good ratings from the general public. Easily hook up to TV and computer.

For $500, I would definately look into one of the HTiB system from Onkyo, Infinity, or Harmon Kardon at amazon or look for deals at dealsofamerica.com, fatwallet.com, or slickdeals.net. You'll have to make sure you have the required soundcard with proper outlet to hook your computer to the receiver.

cables, wires, cords can be bought at monoprice.com
