what does it mean to audition speakers?

Take yourself to a few audio/video stores, and sit, and listen to some music on some speakers.

If i purchse those loudspeakers and a reciever that will fit my needs for the future will i be able to run just those speakers and have it still sound good? also on the reciever end i looked at a couple that were either 550W 5.1 or 930W 7.1 they had about 130W per channel what does that mean exactly when the speakers are well over 130W. and the sub if i plug it in that reciever is a crap ton over the 130W

The sub I linked for you is self amp'd. The sub-out on the receiver is just to send the audio signal to the subwoofer, not to power the subwoofer. So the watts per channel of the receiver will have nothing to do with the subwoofer.

can i have a system that is just the L/R speakers and a reciever. All it will be for is extra boom for games and movies for now. There will be sound still coming out of the tv

HT System

Semmens,
You will be fine starting with a good 2.1 system for music and HT. That is how I started my system in order to get better quality components. 2.1 is also probably a good option since you might be moving more frequently in college.

Just make sure that you get a HT receiver so you can easily add the center and surround channels when your room and budget allow.

For speakers, I would avoid the BB and check out the options at local dealers in your budget including Paradigm Studio 20's, Klipsch Reference, Energy, PSB, etc.

are paradigm speakers good. I was in the only specialty shop in grand forks and they only have paradigm monitor series. they sounded real good imma go in there in a couple days with either a dvd or cd and check it out closer.. how many watts per channel for a reciever is good.

Paradigm seems to get really good at the "Studio" series. The models below that are ok but you can get something as good for less money.

Watts for a AVR is a loaded question and the speakers you end up with will determine what AVR you need.
