Ok well I was set on a SVS PB12-NSD BUT its looking more and more like Im gonna end up in a Condo/Apartment or a Townhouse/Duplex at best. If thats the case I think the SVS is gonna be to big and to loud. SO Im looking for something smaller to hold me over for a while. I dont want to spend crazy cash, because Im more or less gonna be using it for a temporary solution. Any ideas are as always aprciated.

Thanks,
Sean

You might consider using a small, well made, 8" sub and "subsidizing" the low-end with something like this, Buttkicker LFE Kit - $349 at Amazon. I ordered one a few days back, but haven't recieved it yet.

There is a review for this system on the site. Some people get the Auro Bass Shaker setup and there is another people use, I forget the name. Search for LFE kit or "actuator", you will find reviews and info.

Good Luck

Subwoofer suggestions for a smaller listening space with neighbors-

Onix X-Sub:
http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=subwoofers&product=12.1

Velodyne VX-10:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&kw=VEVX10B&is=REG&Q=&O=productlist&sku=383364

HSU VTF-1:

Dayton Sub-100:
http://www.Parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?DID=7&PartNumber=300-633&AID=1482627&PID=1909457
(copy and then remove the "-", it doesn't allow the word s e x, for fear it may be a porn site.:)) Never mind the link works this way.:D

The the best value and sound I would go with the Onix X-Sub, it runs neck and neck with the HSU VTF-1 for half the price, and it looks much nicer. It has a very solid construction as well. If you must have a bigger driver the other subs aren't bad options, but the Onix and HSU are prefered in my book, if you get one of those you can use them in a secondary system down the road and still have a great sounding little sub.:D

Ok well I think I have a chance to get a Velodyne DPS-12 for $400. Would that fit the bill? Keep the ideas comming though.

Thanks,
Sean

If you're going to spend $400, might as well get the SVS PB-10 or one of the HSUs :)

While the x-sub is very nice unit for the price and a really good performer for the size it is no match for the Hsu VTF 2.1 that I have. The VTF 1 is pretty much an upgraded VTF 2.1 and I would expect it to out perform the x-sub by a fair margin.

Yes I also have the X-sub.

Yeah I agree, I just wasnt sure if that was a good enough deal to not pass up. I havent looked much into subs lately. Id probably like to stay under 400, and dont want something massive. That VX-10 is sounding right up my alley. Unless its a total POS that seems like a good price, and such.

Thanks,
Sean

Sorry, I made an error I meant the STF-1. I keep forgetting about the new product line. The STF-1 is $50 more than the X-Sub and they perform neck and neck, very sorry for the mix-up. I thought those specs looked strange for an 8".

Yeah, a customer of mine has the 12" Dominator, and it isn't a bad little guy. Doesn't do well with the lowest stuff, but otherwise sounds very good, especially for the size. They are basically what eventually became the Sunfire subs.

Ok guys, you have given me a geat list to look at. Now Im gonna make it a lil more challenging. Im gonna cap the price at $300!! The HSU STF-1 is looking nice, as is the Velodyne VX-10. Ive also seen the Aperion Audio Intimus S8 (I can always return it for free if I dont like it) The X-sub and the Daytons also fit this price cap, but Im unsure on them. Id love to get that dominator, BUT I dont want to spend that much for a sub that I will probably only have 1 or 2 years. So out of what I listed (with the help of everyone) and any that I may have missed at this price point, which is the best?

Thanks,
Sean

I would go for something with a good resale value ratio. It would seem the X-Sub would have a good resale ratio. They also have a 30 day return policy now, they will pay shipping both ways.:) As far as the Dayton, I wouldn't choose that just because they look so cheesy.:D

D'oh, looks like the Dominators sold out anyway...

Capped at $300, I'd say you're looking at your best options right now, however:

Canton Sub at AC4L AND, they have FREE shipping and include a free sub cable right now.... NEW, not refurb.

Honestly thats whats keeping me from the X-Sub as well. To me its realy between the VX-10 for $144.95 (best price) the STF-1 for $249 (Still not a bad price at all, and same 30 day return) and the Intimus S8 for $279 (probably the nicest looking in the group and 30 day return) So its a lil tough for sure. The resale dosent matter to me really, honestly the chances of me reselling are VERY low no matter what I may say. Thanks for the great advise so far, keep it up guys.

Wait, what is keeping you from the X-Sub?

Canton is good, I wish I had one for my bedroom. It has the best specs of the subs that are listed. It looks nice as well.

Looks are keeping me from the X-Sub, I cant handle that slot port. That canton IS nice (and I do have a soft spot for canton) BUT I cant to all siver, to cheep looking for me. They do have the 8" version for $219 NEW in the same beech/silver I have for all my speakers. How does that compare?

Thats a lil better for pricing, I know I said 300 but man you have it right at the edge :D I will give you credit you always have been very helpful to me and have found some great subs at a great price.

Thanks,
Sean
