I am thinking of getting some computer speakers for mainly music listening. I can get either of the two models for 115 shipped, but I am unsure which to get.

The z-560 is an older modle and a 4.1 system, with more power. The z-2300 is newer and a 2.1 system with a little less power.

Now, being that the z-560s are older, what effect does that have on sound quality compared to the newer z2300s? As in new technologies etc ...

Which would you recommend to get?

or is there another solution without getting a box set of speakers?

I have the older 560s. They absolutely rock. I used it as my speaker system in a home theater for about 9 months. They are back on computer duty now...

I have the z-2300's for my PC and they rock as well. Though not as accurate as good home theater speakers they do a great job. The sub is quite powerful and they are THX certified so that must mean a little something, even if it doesn't imply as much quality as it used to.
