Logitech Harmony Remote

Any solution for the poor charger connection?
Use this advice at your own risk, but I was told to look at the charger base, you'll see 3 metal connectors. Rip the middle one out completely. Then the remote will sit better on the other two and charge, the middle on is useless.

I was told this by a reputable company that installed some wiring in my place, but my remote isn't so far off that I needed to do this. The slightest shift when I put the remote in the charger and it falls into place.

In other words, I haven't tried it, YMMV. And don't get mad at me if it doesn't work, just use it my post as a thread to research a little more before you try it.

My TV requires 10 seconds before it accepts a command to change inputs. Fortunately the Harmony knows this and waits :)
This is interesting because the practical nuts and bolts side of things are far more important than the conceptual side.

Do you have to sit and literally hold remote pointed at your system while the macro runs? About how long does the entire macro take to power on the tv, switch inputs, and power up the other components?

With IR, I'm concerned that with my wife and daughter, they'll press the button and not keep it pointed correctly and will knock everything out of sync. (I have my equipment in a BDI Avion cablnet that's not great for remotes)

With that in mind, I think I need a remote with RF

With a Harmony, you just hit "Help" and it will resync for you. It's pretty slick.

I am looking to purchase a Logitech Harmony Remote but I need one that is compatible with Playstation 3. Can anyone confirm theres works with the PS3? It would be nice if it was compatible with Playstation 2 also. I do not know much about the model specifics so what do you suggest? I would like it to control my HDTV, PS3, PS2, Receiver, Directv Receiver, and a DVD player. Can I just get by with the 550 or 670?
From the OP, you can buy a USB adapter for your PS3 which will allow it to accept IR codes (runs $30-$40) and will work with most universal remotes. Just search it on Google.

I just got my Harmony One and am LOVING it!!!!

Yes you would have to hold the remote pointed at the equipment until the macro completes. One workaround for this type of situation is to reorder your macro steps. So for example you could make the first command be TV power, then do all the other stuff like turn on the receiver and change its input, and then end with the TV input change. The URC remotes allow a pause as a macro step but it doesn't actually count as a step.

There is no way around programming pauses or reording the macro steps, but RF would eliminate the need to keep pointing at the equipment until the macro completes.

I'm thinking I might hold off a bit on a remote. I'd like to see if Harmony does in fact come out with an RF version of the Harmony One.

URC URC URC. If you have convinced the wife of the purchases so far....... whats 5-6 hundred on a remote? I have said it before, i have nothing against harmony, but just a daily read through the remote control section over at AVS is all the re-assurance one would need not to get one.

PS3 control

I have a PS3 and a Logitech 880. I bought the IR to blue tooth converter at www.IR2BT.com and could not be happier. Everything works perfectly. at only 60 bucks shipped it is worth it.
