LN40A650 Auto Motion Plus 120HZ LAG. please help.

Hi I have a LN40A50. Connected to a PS3 via HDMI cable.

I have my Auto Motion 120Hz set on High.
DNR on High

I am finding when I am watching a Blu Ray movies I am getting a bit of lag when watching fast moving actions scenes. Is this normal with this tv? please help. thanks

I don't know the particulars with that TV but think all LCD's suffer from this, but was under the impression that the 120Hz was suppose to help eliminate this.

I would try it with the 120 turned off. How did u determine that the dnr needed to be set to high?

Ok here is the skinny, the 120hz really is a huge selling point for the big companies. Its best for pan shots like watching a nature documentary. Movies the 120hz should be turned off you are gonna see many artifacts on the screen or lag in the picture. The best thing to do for Blu Ray movies is to just turn the 120hz off completely. I think for sports and regular tv you should try putting it on Low and see if it is to your preference. Some people like it and other do not. Good luck. Oh and one more thing just as a fun fact, the 120hz isn't the cause of the lag, its what samsung calls their Dejudder Processing System. Most of the higher end tv's have this with their 120hz but some lower end models in certain tv lines have the 120hz but no Dejudder processing. Kinda messed up that the people in stores try to sell you on a lower end Vizio or Philips and it doesn't have that feature in the LCD.

I just felt it would probably take away some of the lag. it kind of did actually but there was still some. that is why i made this posting.

Your displays best settings need to be determined by you and calibrated. Your room and display are unique and starting with a basic calibration like the one outlined here is a good place to start.Also searching this forum will provide some good reading.

As a side note, the 120hz feature doesnt always work as its design impletation and cause a far worse effect, and lower motion resolution.

I'm just a big TV guy I guess you could say haha Also don't get sold on something because of its Dynamic Contrast ratio because in reality that means nothing its the native contrast ratio thats more important. But you have a great tv I love the new sammys except just not a huge fan of the red on the outside. I personally find it a bit distracting. Anyways I do not personally own the new samsung so i couldn't tell you the best picture settings for your tv if that's what you are talking about. I have a PS3 as well and the picture is pretty dam good. I guess I would make sure you have the latest HDMI cable 1.3 (i think) that is supported in the samsung. Other than that you might be able to find some picture settings for your tv on the forum. I've seen people post that before, or just mess around till you find what you like.

If one reads the manual, they actually recommend it on for sports/live action (usually on low) and off for film based content like movies.

Your Auto Motion is Samsung's take on frame interpolation. You can google F.I.

The VP is simply not yet powerful enough for fast motion. IMO. That's why the slow scenes might look nice and fluid, but not otherwise.

General consensus is 120hz is good. This is a separate thing from frame interpolation. There is no consensus on the latter. Some people see three footballs in the air.

Turn off DNR, unless you are absolutely positive you like it. The more you DNR the less detail you will see. And TBH, unfortunately, many movie companies are already using it in their discs. This means we lose detail, though we *might* possibly be less distracted from grain. However, speaking from experience, its usually done with terrible judgment, and sometimes with absolutely no need for it.
