anyone using this approach to acoustical damping?

which is better the live end, behind the speakers or behind the head?

i'm also wondering what % of all the walls surfaces do most of you cover with such things as wall hangings etc, for 2-channel and for surround rooms.

cheers

There is not a real choice where the dead end goes, around the front speakers.

thanks.

would one then leave the wall begind the listning possition completelty bare?

i'm keen to try out some different arrangements of my wal-hangings, but also trying to think ahead before putting more holes in the wall which my girlfriend hates.

cheers

I hate holes in the wall; someone has to fix them eventually:D

No, you don't have to 'completely' leave the back wall bare. Just make sure it is not covered totally and anything to give it a random scattering/reflection pattern would be fine back there

thanks mtrycrafts.

one more question. i got a big waal haanging that covers the entire back wall that i could use. it is pretty thin, like a thin blanket. i'm wondering if this would create too much unwanted absorbtion, and if so at what frequencies roughly? also, would a blanket type hanging create and diffusion?

cheers

A blanket will only affect high frequencies, nothing in the midgrange or lower. If you have problems with midrange reflections, you need to look into fiberglass or diffusion.

The sound improvement is wonderful with LEDE. Be sure to add bass traps if at all possible. A very worthy investment. Best of luck to you.

thanks for the replies.

well, aethetics won out this time and the rugs are behind my head. sounds o.k. but it's only temporary till we immigrate in 6 months time. then i'll make some bass traps for the corners, probably broadband absorbtion behind the speakers, diffusers behind my head, and diffusers(maybe convex plywood sheet) at the first relection points. cant wait:)

cheers
