LG spyware gets worse...

This is getting beyond ridiculous. Some LG computer monitors are now causing Windows to install adware without the user's permission or prior knowledge and gaining internet access to report metrics, which is totally unnecessary for a computer monitor. If you own an LG TV, things get even worse. LG TV firmware is updating privacy policies and service terms with "AI service terms" and buried in the middle of an 8,000 page legal document is the following:
"i. CONSENT REQUIREMENT: You acknowledge and agree that it is your sole responsibility to obtain all necessary consents from any third parties whose voices may be captured by the Product and to notify household members and guests that their voices may be captured and processed, in compliance with applicable wiretapping, eavesdropping, and privacy laws. If anyone does not consent, you should disable the microphone or voice features in settings. LGE disclaims any liability for your failure to obtain such consent or provide such notification."

That's right. It is YOUR responsibility to inform all of your guests that your TV is listening in on your conversations and may be harvesting that data for third parties. Makes me glad that I bought a Samsung. I have posted before about changing the privacy settings on TVs to turn off data harvesting but the updated firmware is getting so bad that I no would longer use any of the built in streaming services or apps and just disconnect the TV from the internet if you are able to. You are much better off using third party streaming devices connected to your TV or AVR and avoiding any so-called smart apps all together.

Edward Snowden suggests adopting a view that ANY AND ALL devices in modern times with a microphone or camera is spying on you, regardless of their claims otherwise, so on a phone for example he routinely covers the camera lenses with black tape and physically kills the microphone(s). When he does need a camera he removes the tape and when he needs a mic he plugs his own (dumb) one in.

I have two Panny Plasmas still in use. In some ways the picture is more natural than OLED. The big negative is their power draw and heat generation which also adds to the AC bill in the summer.

Several years ago, we could get monitors. But since manufacturers found out that they were selling more TV sets, they decided to stop releasing monitors which actually brought less profits than TVs.

You bought a Samsung TV. I don't trust Samsung more than LG with regard to privacy. As a matter of fact, I bought a Google Pixel 8 phone, because I read a report stating that both Samsung and Apple were spying on customers. Privacy is of most importance, and governments with appropriate knowledge, openly allow such spying endeavours. With AI on top of that, where are we going?
