Greeting Fellow Audiophiles :)
PC Gamer and Blu Ray enthusiast here .. been cracking on with an old Yamaha RXV461 for many years and for PC gaming its been great with its 5.1 channel analogue input from my PC. Recently though i've been getting into Blu-Ray and wish to experience the full sound of Blu-Ray HD Audio and while the pc and receiver can play the audio (via soundblaster spdif coax) it downcodes it to normal dolby digital.

Is there a receiver on the market today or a recent model that is 5.1 (7.1 seems overkill to me and at my price level you seem to get more power output per channel with a 5.1 receiver), has DTS-HD and True HD but can do 5.1 multi channel inputs?
price range under is anything under $900

(computers graphics card can output hd audio through hdmi)

If you're going to be using HDMI what's the purpose of having multichannel inputs? I ask because that feature may cost you a bit.

For gaming, my soundcard outputs a games 5.1 audio through multi channel which is great (dont think games use digital output surround yet) and i'm finding where it was a common feature on receivers 5 years ago these days its not.. so i might have to sacrifice it to get a receiver that does dts-hd and true hd.

Yeah, it seems that multchannel inputs have been chucked out the door for production cost savings. Thankfully though you don't have to go back a all that far to get them, my rx-v765 does have them. I would recommend browsing the used market [craigslist, ebay] and picking up a nice used receiver that fits your needs.

Cheers mate great advice :) scoping out a previous model Yamaha RX-V665 on ebay just hoping i dont notice the drop from 100watts per channel (5.1) going to a 90 watts per channel (7.1) system.. doubt i will though

Where are you located? US, abroad? specific links would be easier to give if we knew where you were (well if you're in the US many links, if abroad less so)

Marantz SR-5006 is another to check out. 7.1 input great receiver.
