Let There Be Drums!

I watched this one last night. I wasn't sure what to expect after having seen "Count Me In" which this sounded a lot like, but this one is very different. It sort of starts out with a bit of the same, where the drummers are talking about "I hit a drum and that was it, ever since then that's all I wanted to do." moments. It quickly evolves to something more personal as the guy filming it is Justin Kreutzmann, the son of the founding member and drummer for the entirety of their existence of the Grateful Dead, Bill Kreutzmann. There becomes a sort of Zen discussion about what drumming means from most of them. With Justin having been around the insides of the music industry gives him a different perspective and it comes across in the way these people open up to him it feels like. There are other children of famous bands and they also talk about their experiences of growing up in this type of environment. I was surprised that Ringo was in it actually. This one is pretty insightful and and has a lot of perhaps unfiltered candor, some amazing archival footage, and overall was just very fun to watch. Plus he has some incredible drummers in there.

Sue me, I like movies about music and music history :D

It is on Amazon to rent or buy, Itunes and Vudu.

Another "Let there be Drums" demonstration happens with Giuseppe Verdi's Dies Irae from his Requiem Mass. The Bass Drum is used and you can get it on Blu-ray with full DTS-HD Master Audio 24-bit Surround. I have it and it is an amazing performance from the Teatro Alla Scala:

That is an excellent demo disc.
