Well folks, I just read the new article in here about the different kinds of displays and I was shocked to find out that my newly purchased RP LCD Dispaly doesn't have burn in! I thought for sure that it did... shows what I know. That is such a huge burden off my chest as I listen to a lot of sirius music with my dish network receiver and all those channels have a display of the artist title and such. I was sooo worried with my previous RPTV that I would never let my gf leave ANYTHING on the screen for more then like 2 minutes hehehe. Learning new things every day. :D

I've heard people say that LCDs can burn-in, but I've yet to see it myself. And my research into how the technology works leads me to believe otherwise.

Even if it can, it probably takes a lot longer than a CRT to burn-in.. months, maybe years, of the same image sitting static.

I've heard this too, but you would have to literally abuse it to no end to get it to do so. It's defintely not "burn-in" as experienced with plasma displays or even CRTs.

In a discussion with a company recently I have found out what LCD burn-in really is... and some companies try to claim their problems are the same as what LCD has.

LCD has what is called image retention which looks very similar to burn-in. But, the problem is not permenent and can be corrected.

The problem is that when a LCD image is in the same state for days (not hours) then those individual LCD crystals retain a bit of an electrical charge that prevents them from properly twisting/untwisting all the way as they are supposed to. On a black scene, this appears as burn-in.

But, when you turn the display off you then should unplug the TV and let it sit for 24-48 hours so that all electrical charges from the display can disappate. This will allow the LCD pixel to fully drain its power and return to a zero state. The issue completely goes away and the LCD is really as good as it ever was. No burn-in at all.

Plasma? Nope - when you have it, it's here to stay - and it is ugly.
