Last system I will ever need to own

Hmm. Here is a You Tube review of K-Guard. Not good.
Yep, I saw that... and others. In fact, I found YouTube videos like that for every gutter guard system I found. This guy doesn't say what kind of guard he was installing, but the videos show some kind of screen. It's easy to find videos, (and to just imagine), pine needles and stuff stuck in those screens. They will require regular cleaning.

I was getting real frustrated looking for a solution on the web. There are horror stories and videos about every system. Then talked to my fishing buddy. A recommendation from a friend in my area seems more trustworthy than a web video.

When the guy came out for an estimate, I asked him about debris coming thru the gap. He said some can, but the key is to install the gutters with a proper slope. If the gutters are level, the debris will sit, and eventually collect. With a proper slope, the small amount of debris will wash to and down the downspout. It makes sense. And the gutters can handle 12"/hour of rain. It's more than I expect.

Whatever you decide, I would look for a local, family owned business to handle installation. The one I chose has been here 30 years and uses their own installers, not contractors.

So to me, the keys are proper installation and reliable service if there's a problem. The lifetime warranty is as much about the local franchise owner as the product.

If you can find a gutter guard product that doesn't have horror stories on the web, please let me know... if it's before Tuesday.

I hope all of that nice brick and stonework survived the 5.6 quake flawlessly. Was it felt in OKC?

I have not checked that chimney.

Now I am nervous.

I am working at the hospital today. My office is on the 7th floor of the hospital. My room was moving back and forth for about 10 seconds. I was petrified!!!!!

What a relief. Everything is still good after that big earthquake. :)

Awesome. I'd still make sure the masonry contractors carefully check everything. Better safe than sorry.

Good thing most of the front yard will be concrete.

Well then the water should soak right into the concrete, it is much more porous than soil....

Are all those green things trees? If so that's about a million bucks right there. Our front tree died and we just got a replacement. It was like a grand and it's the size of a twig.

I see the backyard but I don't see the pool. It would be silly not to have a pool in OK since you are spending a lot of money anyway. Throw in another 60k.

Oh wait, is there an outdoor kitchen? Throw in 20 more.

Yup. Trees are those green things that look like trees. :)

No pool because we don't do much swimming. Also don't like pool maintenance.

Don't you have any pool maintenance nightmare stories you want to share with us?

We don't do a lot of swimming but it adds a beautiful finish to your backyard. We do float around and drink alcohol which is fun.

Pool Maintenance? I spend maybe 5 minutes 2 days a week on maintenance which is checking the chemistry and hitting button on my phone if something is off. Maybe once a week I empty out the skimmers and vacuum basket. The vacuum is also initiated by a button on my phone.

Twice a year I change out the DE in the filter. My pool builder will do it for $130 but I normally do it myself. I did it yesterday and it took about 2.5 hours. I got out of my house cleaning duties since I had to to that so I broke even.

Now in October/Nov, I hate having a pool as I am pulling leafs twice a day until the trees are bare.
