Large center speaker with satellites?

Hello All,

I have a Mirage Nanosat 5.1 system but I replaced the sub with a Speaker Company TC-250 (which I love). I'm using the DENON AVR-1610. The only thing lacking know is the center channel. Even though I love my system I really wish the center channel had more sound/range. I'm thinking about replacing it with one of the larger Mirage center speakers but I'm concerned a large center will some how over shadow/unbalance the Front R/L satellite speakers. Should I be concerned or should I roll with it?

In general, if you're going to get a larger center, you should upgrade your front R/L to match. That being said, you could get just the center, and if you like it that way, fine. If not, get the matching R/L sats.

First off, welcome to Audioholics Waldron80 !!!!

I'm pretty sure that Mirage speakers are voiced to be the same across the entire line. I would upgrade to the next step up, or even above if you can fit it.

That way you can upgrade the L/R down the line to match as the funds become more available. That will allow you to use your present L/R as surrounds.

I would agree that a good first step is upgrading the center channel. When I demoed the nanosats and the mx5.1 lines, I just couldn't fully embrace the center channel with each. Instead, I purchased the omd-5s and am runnning a 2.0 system.

The Omd line is great and is being closed out. Vann's has great prices including the center channel for 299 (used to retail for 749). Swapping out the front speakers for that center channel and perhaps the omd-5s for right and lefts upfront (at 179 a piece) would be a big upgrade in the range of sound produced.
