Laptop and phone in the service of music

Well, for what it's worth, Vista was a real piece of crap OS. In my humble opinion, of course. But, I suspect that BSA will agree there too.

I'm assuming you've moved to Win10? I'm fairly certain it has these options, you just haven't seen them yet. It does take a little learning and getting re-adjusted to.

So far, I have personally been quite please with Win10. But, I'm not a power user by any means.

And yeah, I only see the benefit of dual monitors in the work environment. Raw data on screen 1, spreadsheet on screen 2. Or, actively working on screen 1 and monitoring a remote computer on screen 2, stuff along those lines.
Yep, win10 for me. I knew enough to get that ... (but somebody told me to get it too) o_O
I should know how to play with the display configuration even if I don't use it, right? I'll get there eventually ... probably, maybe.

Uh-oh, I found the duplicate or extend display option. I had the same problem before with only having the cursor appear on one screen but not the other. Now that I know how to do 2 screens I don't know how to use them. Maybe by the time Microsoft stops supporting win10, I will have it figured out.

Oh, now I want one. Dual HDMI outputs? One could go to the TV ... but for what? To me it's a wonder I got my printer to work with the new machine, never mind dual monitors. I like the desk top (actual desk top) being clear and free of clutter. Keeping the computer itself out of the way on the sliding drawer seems slick/cool. Not as cool as that docking station but still, pretty cool.

I like the way the new machine handles HD video over the, now unplugged for good, vista. I use to have to lower the resolution on Youtube for the video not to freeze up. Even though the new machine has a 1080 or 1050 screen, the larger external monitor still has a better picture.

This is good help, btw. Money spent and sh!t's working all in the space of a few days.

This is weird. The old machine got it's keyboard scrambled by a Logitech k740 usb keyboard so that it wasn't usable. Even after a reformat, it got scrambled again. However the same keyboard with win10 has both the k740 and laptop keyboard working normally. I'm pretty happy about that. The old machine just lived on that shelf due to weak battery but the new machine can travel if need be.

Thanks for the help.

if you weren't so cheap
Gonna check at Staples first but a search for a usb hub brought me back to this thread.

I'm leaning toward this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003M0NURK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I think it's all I need. Or maybe a 7 port:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DQFGJR4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Or maybe both. The little one could be portable. I don't think I need to spend 90 bucks when 7 will do.

Who are you calling cheap? We got suckered back into Prime so $6.99 is just $6.99 after c-note.

Do you need it only for data devices
I thought the plug sizes were different. I've got a free small (mini?) USB port available on this laptop.

To answer the question I needed it before for a printer and sound card which I kept switching back and forth. Now I've started using a DATS V2 so there are 3 things I need to plug into 1 full size USB port and I thought that meant 2.0.

Thanks, I'll just get the one you linked. Still beets spending 90 bucks (I think).

While I have your attention, let me ask if you know how I would go about posting graphs and such obtained with that DATS? I'm in the process of reading the user's guide but that info isn't jumping out at me.

EDIT: Turns out the single usb port on the right of my laptop is 2.0 but the on the left there are two 3.0 ports and one USB 3.1 Type-C port, hence my confusion. I thought all the big ones were 2.0. Thanks again.

USB A port could be 2.0 or 3.0. Often 3.0 are blue and 2.0 are black, but it's not always. Other than color they are physically identical.
For a printer and external sound card, 2.0 probably would work, but stick any 3.0 USB stick into 2.0 port and it will work only at 2.0 speeds - ie: very slowly.
DATs I'm not familiar with - if it lets you export to an image like JPG or PNG. If it doesn't, I'd just use a screengrab with windows built-in Sniping tools or (preferred) installed a free Greenshot software which allows you direct uploads to Imgur site and grab links to your images straight from software (Imgur->History)

Question Are you running the calibration each time you open the program?
