Krell Showcase 7.1 Preamp/Processor or Oppo 105?

Hello all, new to these forums,

What do you guys think? The older Krell Showcase 7.1 Preamp/Processor or the Oppo 105 for a preamp. I'm thinking about getting rid of my Krell for the Oppo 105. Sound quality and imaging are my goals. Thanks!

There's a 95% chance there will be no difference whatsoever, assuming all of the equipment is operating normally. There might be an audible difference in hiss at idle if there's a gain matching problem.

I still use my Krell Showcase w/my Cambridge Audio BD-752 and before that w/a Oppo 83-SE. Sound quality has always been excellent.

While it can be used as a pre, going directly from the 105 to an amp is not ideal. I've done it and it can even switch a second HDMI device, but your options are very limited in terms of what you can do with it. I agree that you will likely see little difference as well.
