klipsch rvx-54 system

I'd love to get some help... trying to build a new system to replace a pretty lame polk setup. eventually, i'd love to get an rvx-54 system. would love to go bigger with real floorstanders, but would like to stay married more. but my initial need is a new av receiver. been reading great things about the onkyo tx-sr605/705/805, which works great because i have credit at circuit city for $500 or so. willing to throw in the extra money if the 805 is worth it, but wanted some unbiased thoughts. also considering denon avr-788/888, but haven't seen any reviews.

would either support the rvx system enough, or do i need to hold onto the cc cash and head to a specialty store.

also, i'd love opinions on the rvx and other klipsch options in the $1500-3000 range for entire system.

thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.

The RVX speakers have a sensitivity 98dB @ 2.83 volts / 1m and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. Any basic mid-level AVR should run them just fine.

I have seen a lot of people with issues with the Onk 605 and it doesnt have pre-outs so adding an amp later is out of the question.

Something basic like a Yamaha RX 661 would work well.

thanks for your response. do the 705 and 805 have the same limitations?

also, does the yamaha outperform denon by a lot? if possible i'd love to free myself of the cc credit. i know that limits my options, but i'm hoping there's something worth getting there. i actually listened to the yamaha at bb and was more impressed by the pioneer elite (whatever version was comparable, price-wise). alas, they're not available at cc, either.

I have never heard of issues with the 705 or 805 and they both have pre-outs. Yamaha doesnt out perform Denon at all. Onk, Yammy and Pioneer all make fine AVRs. It is unlikely that the difference you heard in the two receivers amount to much as they were not calibrated the same.

What are your options at CC?

as far as i can tell, the options begin and end with onkyo/denon.

onkyo 705/805

denon 688/788/888

low end sherwood, sony & jvc (at least judging by price)

if the best option is to keep the cc cash in my pocket, that's cool too... i'm sure i can always figure out a use for it another day.

No Denon make great AVRs I am just not familar with them. The 705 or 805 Onk would be great options. I am just saying that the AVR is the least important part of the equation. All you need to do is pick the one that has the options you want/need and falls into your price range, they will all drive your Klipsch pretty good.

Remember you should be spending twice as much on your main speakers as you are on your AVR. Speakers are what makes the difference. Have you listened to the Klipsh and do you like them?

I had the RVX-42's for about a year and I used them as on-walls. They are very easy to drive and any of the receivers you listed would drive them w/o an issue. My only complaint with them was lack of base response. I think the 54's use the same size driver just more of them. If you have a good sub it is not really that big of an issue. More a ht speaker than a music speaker from that stand point. My main reason for selling them was that I have a dedicated room now and am upgrading to floor standing.

Are you looking to use the 42's for rears or the rsx series?

was thinking that rsx sats would be the rears... don't have a huge room and am trying not to fill it completely with speakers. may even go your route and put 42s up front instead of the 54s. i'm thinking of adding an rw-12d sub, but open to other thoughts.

from a budget standpoint the 705 might be overkill, but i don't want to take chances with the 'popping' i've read about in the 605. i'm a pretty big fan of klipsch, wish they had more speakers that didn't feel so box-like. with space a concern would you recommend something like an rvx-54 (or even 42) arrangement, or opt for the largest bookshelves?
i heard the bookshelves at a bb magnolia and wasn't overwhelmed, but have heard a friend's rvx-42 system and was really impressed.

Having them on the wall does look good and they are very detailed speakers. I would not recommend the Klipsch sub and would go the SVS, HSU or Outlaw route. You will get way more for your money. If you can I would check out the 54 and hear the difference to the 42. My dealer did not carry the 54 and at the time I wanted on wall.

klipsch rvx54 system

personally i favor the denon audio video receivers. i have a AVR 3300 that i have had for years and it has lots of power and i have not had a moments problem with it. i also want to get a pair of the klipsch rvx-54 speakers after i return the rf-63,s that i bought today. the rf-63,s are just way to big for the small lliving room. wife says they have to go:) you can't go wrong with the klipsch.
