Klipsch RF35 or Synergy F3 please advise

Hi guys,

I'm new here but I'm not a total newb to HT. I'm building a new HT in my new apartment. I just recently order the Yamaha RS-V2600 AV receiver and picked up a pair of Synergy F3 on Sale on Black Friday.... I know Klipsch has great reputation, so I went and bought them without thinking since I know I can always return it.

However after reading some reviews on the Synergy line, I notice that many people recommend the Reference series over the Synergy, build quality, sound quality etc. Ok so here is my question for you. I dont' have a huge budget but I do want quality and a good bang for the buck. I paid just shy of $500 for a paid of F3's including taxes. However I came across an online store that is selling an older RF35 pair for $600 plus shipping I guess.

I know the RF82 is now currently the Klipsch speaker that is very highly recommended. Question: How do the RF35 compare to the RF82? How does the RF35 compare to the Synergy F3's? Which would you buy and why?

Also as a side question.. I was thinking about completing the 7.1 speakers setup by getting the Klipsch Quintet III speakers and eventually buying a SVS sub. Would this be ok to match with the Synergy F3's or RF35? Thanks so much!

Not sure about most of your questions, but I will assure you that you will want to return the Synerygy and go with the reference series, there is no comparison, the RF series is definitely the way to go.

Yes, the SVS sub will go great with whatever you get.

The Reference series uses a better collection of components. Better tweeter, better woofers, better cabinet, better cross-over. And it truly is a night and day difference between the Reference series and the Synergy series.

Thanks for the prompt reply guys and advice guys. Sounds like it will be worth while for me to pay the difference and invest on the RF35 based on what you are guys are saying.

If I get the RF35 for my front's, would getting the Quintet III set be ok for the surrounds and center? Ideally I would getting the Reference series surrounds and center would be nice but I can't afford it right now.

No not really... I don't have to get Klipsch. My budget is around $1000 and within that budget, I would like to complete my HT in speakers for now. I would invest more on the fronts because I love listening to stereo music. 7.1 is not as important to me as 5.1 for now since not too much media is available in 7.1 yet.

I'm open to suggestions though. I'm in Santa Clara, CA, but thinking of buying online if there are good deals.

I ve been reading posts for the past two months on what speakers to get also. Intially I was going to get F3 about a month ago And at the time the there were running about 750 a pair. After reading reviews on how bad the synergy line I decided to go with AV Rockets 760 beacuse of the sale. When I notice the Black friday sale it was hard to resist. So bought F3 and a center C2 for $700 with tax to give them a trial. How bad can they be? People make it sound like my answer machine sounds better. LOL Well since friday and even as I write my kids are watching starwars. Im really hard press to figure out if the price difference makes huge difference with sound. I had friends over last night and everyone seems to love the speakers. Of course we are all novice when it comes to sound. All thou I had to turn down the trebile down a bit, a little to bright. I ve been going back and fourth about paying $700 vs $1400( rockets with center, Shipping ouch) How do you like them? Where did find the rf82 line for 600?

Yeah the ad for the F3's on Best Buy, made them really hard to resits. Hence I bought them as well with the Quintet III. Now I'm reading the reviews and I am wondering if it is a case of buying on the spur of the moment kind of thing. I don't have my receiver to test them out yet as I also order that on Black Friday. I should it by Wednesday though, hopefully along with the wires and banana plugs I ordered from Knukonceptz.com.

Actually the speakers were the RF35 I was mentioning for $600 plus shipping. But I just checked again and it went up to $699 plus $60 shipping. So at that price you can get them from onecall.com.

The RF82 are way out of my price range so I won't be able to them at all. How do you like your F3? What are you powering them with?

Do be honest with you, Im a novice, they sound pretty good.All of my friends said they sound great. Before this I had Cerwin Vega with 15 woofer. Now the only thing that I notice is they do sound bright,sharp, because of the horn. But I turned down the trebile a bit and it sounds better. As for the bass I can feel it up hear on second floor, as my kids are watching. Makes me wonder if I need sub. BUt Im still going to get one. I want shake the dust off my shutters. I have Yahama HTR 5560 75watts per channel. I guess it it just hard to justfy paying an extra 700 dollars for the top of the line. To be honest who is going to look for 700 dollar diffence in sound when your friends are over. Ive had those cerwin vega for 7 yrs And never had anyone complain about them. I dont know I have until the nov 30th for the rocket sale to end. Overall speakers sound pretty good, IMO, for 450 a pair

For your budget, and considering the fact that you are considering a SVS sub, and since you are also considering using smaller speakers like in the quintet, have you thought about a speaker package from SVS? Don't worry about what other people like in their speakers, listen to speakers yourself and decide. If you like the Klipsch sound get the Klipsch (I would even get the Synergys if I liked them more, though I personally don't). The fact is, no one can decide what sound you like but you. Listen to Def Tech, Paradigm, Boston Acoustics, whatever you can listen to in your budget. After doing some listening with your own music you should be able to decide which you like, so if you decide you like Sony speakers the best, however unlikely, then get those.

The number one reason that Klipsch sound poor on low-fi gear like Sony is they don't have the drive ability to handle Klipsch's impedance swings on the top end. The compression drivers they use don't pair well with crappy amplification.

Thanks for all your comments. Been very helpful. I went to Magnolia Hifi last night and checked out the sounds of the Klipsch RF82, RF62 and Martin Logan Montages. They had the Yamaha RX-V2700 so I tested them out with it since I ordered the Yamaha RX-V2600.

I was very impressed with the Klipsch as I found them much more efficient than the ML Montages. I was wowed by the vocals. Those horn tweeters are surely something else. The RF82 was very nice. I love the gold color too. The RF62 were quite impressive too.

I can see why so many people like them. But I can also see why people say the Klipsch are a bit bright.

Yes, Klipsch definatly needs to be matched with a smooth reciever that can tone down the brightness. But matched with the right receiver or amp and youll love em. Atleast I do.
