There's nothing that horribly wrong with liking one over the other. Now if we're arguing whether Gandalf could beat up Dumbledore...we'd be descending into nerddome

To be fair, if ever there was a trio of films that categorically didn't need extended editions, those would be it. Edit: Also doesn't help my opinion that the aforementioned bit didn't actually happen in the book.

I must disagree. The EE of FotR improved the feel a lot. It made the long journey feel long and at least made a good-faith attempt at setting up Borimir properly. TT EE started to give some idea of the Ent's slow pace and some explanation for Merry and Pipn's growth. TRotK was so far off-script that the EE did not help. Given my way: 6 movies true-to-book (so movie 6 would be a bit dull: scouring of the Shire and all that).

What can I say, when ROTK is pushing 263 minutes of runtime, IMO you're going from "adding useful backstory" to becoming cumbersome for most people. Really most of my complaint is directed there, given how it drags on towards the end and ultimately it doesn't even get the story right... Of course I'm of the opinion that if you want the real extended edition, you'd...pick up the book
